Two Notes Torpedo Captor

For bass tube amps anyway I find that the load does not matter as much as for GTR in terms of inductance. For my PF50T I just use a 100w 8 ohms resistor (instead of the 50w res inside). For the Mywatt 200w, when tracking post OT, I use a group of resistors (400w 8 ohms). No noise fan.

Hi Ross mate, just a couple of questions on this. I agree the Captor X could be more suited to my needs. just a few questions:

I’ll of course use it as you mention, with extra care. Would you say as long as the vent light indicator does not go into red, I’ll be safe to use?

in the event the X doesn’t work with the terror bass, will it harm the amp as well as the X, or is it only the X at risk due to wattage overload?

The article you kindly linked me to mentions that you guys have used 500watt bass heads with the Captor before multiple times, so I assume in this instance I should be on the safer side, considering the terror bass is 250watts at 8ohms.

I know the Captor X is mainly advertised for use with full tube amps, but will it work ok in my instance as the Orange Terror is a hybrid with a solid state power section

I note the speaker in on the Captor X is TS 1/4. However the Orange Terror only supports Speakon cable out. Would using a hybrid cable like this work? Invalid Link Removed

My main aim is to use the amp for silent headphone practice, to play along with songs from Apple Music or YouTube etc. What would you recommend I use in conjunction with Captor X, as I notice it does not have an aux input?

Thanks for getting back to me! Please see responses below.

- Yes, the vent indicator highlights when the signal is clipping in the Captor X

- It is actually both that can be harmed however providing you follow our guidelines you should be ok!

- Yes it will work fine providing our guidelines in the doc i sent you are followed

- Yes this should be ok to use although this in not something we have tested internally

- We use an SSL 2 interface for these scenarios as there is a super convenient USB / Input knob for balancing your computer and the Captor X's sound output.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

Another question on both the captor and captor X

would either work with an Ampeg V-4B? It has a max output of 100watts
I have a Captor X 8 ohms and, just to be sure, I’ve bought a cheaper Harley Benton used load box 100 watts to put in parallel. I wouldn’t, personally, use my Captor X on my 100 watts amps (YBA-3, V4, YGL-3) without a supplemental load box but that’s me! Forget it about even « thinking » to use it with my SVT!!!

I’ve used it alone with a Traynor YBA-1 (40 watts) and was able to trigger the overload LED on the Captor X…

The Captor X is the best way, for me, to have my tube amps sound in headphones so I wouldn’t risk to blow it.

**BTW, the V4 and V4B could go as high as 110-120 watts…

I used the standard torpedo for my v4b. I had the 8 ohm version.

A v4b is a tube amp. That one needs a load attached to it.

Your orange amp is not a tube amp. It does not require a load to run. Also, it will run and sound exactly the same without a speaker or load box.
The Captor X would be the load but as I’ve said in my prior post, I wouldn’t risk it with a 100w amp. With my YBA-1, the X took place of the cab and was the correct load for the amp. With the X and a suitable amp, no more than 50w, you don’t need to plug the cab to practice silently. You could, however, plug a cab to use the Captor X as a « DI » or attenuating box.

I never had a problem. I keep my v4b running clean though.

Chaining two together into a 4ohm 200w load is a great idea though

Am I right in thinking I can run an ordinary instrument 1/4 patch cable from the line "Dry Out" of the Captor into either the Darkglass Element or Two Notes C.A.B. M +?
Yup. Just not the speaker out. The speaker out carries power. The line out just carries a line signal. Same as the di.

Don't use a trs. It's a mono jack. Trs is a stereo cable.
Thanks, only reason why I ask about

TRS, is because it says it on the front next to the output.

Hmm, I stand corrected. I guess it is a stereo jack. Check the pictures to make sure the cab m+ has a balanced (trs) input as well. Then you'll know for sure

Is a standard mono jack. Instr, amp, line in. Those things are all mono signals.

So, get an XLR cable to mono TS to go from the torpedo to the cab mView attachment 4999361
Issue with that though, is I’ll have to connect the Captor to power to use the XLR. Where as the line out is passive. Maybe I should just use the TRS cable as it seems both inputs and outputs on each respective unit does require TRS. At the base of the manual is does mention TRS input in respect of the CAB M +
