Two Notes Torpedo Captor

Just reading through the manual. The CAB M+ input looks to be multi functional (AMP/INST/LINE IN), but I can’t work out if it requires balanced TRS or not. Here’s a link to the manual:
torpedo_cab_mplus:torpedo_c.a.b._mplus_user_s_manual [User's manuals]
It goes before the Captor. Speaker out the amp, into the Captor. It also says you can use it visa versa. But, I'd use it before, and just have the captor as a silent load.

Note, that this way is only needed with your v4b, or any other tube amp. Otherwise you would just use a standard instrument cable from your send/pre out into the cab m

Issue with that though, is I’ll have to connect the Captor to power to use the XLR. Where as the line out is passive. Maybe I should just use the TRS cable as it seems both inputs and outputs on each respective unit does require TRS. At the base of the manual is does mention TRS input in respect of the CAB M +
I read more, and edited.

You're right. I missed that. You're good. Looks like it accepts balanced. I'm sure it would accept unbalanced as well, if it accepts instrument input to be used on a pedalboard.

That’s exactly what I was thinking initially. I guess I’ll just try both, I’m sure it’ll do no harm. Although with both the out of the line out on the captor and the in on the CAB being TRS, I guess I’ll just go with that

I know you can go CAB M + into the Captor for the silent load as you say, but for some reason it just makes more sense in my head to plug the amp straight into the load box, then line out to the CAB M +. It just feels safer. Plus I can’t see myself using any of the functions when going CAB M + first. My only initial intention with the Captor is to use it as a load box to either plug directly into the CAB M + or XLR out into an interface.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the great questions. We would suggest configuring your setup as follows.
torpedo_cab_m:loadboxcase.png [User's manuals]

For all connections here between your Amp, C.A.B. M+ and Loadbox, please use a Speaker cable. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with here!
Thanks again for the excellent customer service as always! It’s been brilliant honestly!

interesting that you recommend configuring CAB M+ before the load box. Is there any particular reason as to why that is for the functions I require?

Hi Mike, Thanks for getting back to me. C.A.B. M+ has actually been configured to work in this manner and would generate optimal signal transfer for the DSP processing in the unit. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with today!

So the diagram you sent, that configuration will actually yield better results than the alternative I mentioned?

Hi Mike, thanks for getting back to us. From our testing and configuration, yes as you will be feeding C.A.B. M+ an un-attenuated signal with minimal/zero colour from the load-box. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Apologies Ross, I’m probably being stupid - which configuration are you referring to out of these two:

amp - captor load box - CAB M +

or

amp - CAB M + - captor load box

I note in the manual for the captor, it mentions an option of taking the line out and attaching to the input of the CAB M +. Which in my head, makes the most sense. However you are recommending CAB M+ first correct?

sorry for all this! I just want to make sure I hook it all up in the right order with the right cables to ensure I do no damage to either of the two notes devices and of course my amp!

Hi Mike, thanks for getting back to me. Either way will work, however for best results configure as follows:

amp - CAB M + - captor load box - please ensure you use Speaker Cables for all connections here.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

thanks mate! Appreciate it. I’ll try both ways - just as long as neither will damage my amp or the two note devices?

if I decide to go Captor first after amp, what cable do you recommend between the captor and the CAB M+ in that instance? Still a speaker cable or standard TRS? Or standard TS?

Hi Mike, Thanks for getting back to me. Providing you have the Captor configured in your chain prior to powering up your amp, there should be no risk to your amplifier. In terms of a Line connection between the Captor and the C.A.B. M+, a TRS cable would be optimal. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Perfect mate, thanks again!

so to be clear…

When using CAB M + into Captor, speaker cable between the CAB M + and speaker cable between CAB M + and Captor

when using the Captor first from the amp, a speaker cable into the Captor, then a TRS cable from the line out of the Captor into the CAB M +

have I got it?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for getting back to me. Please see below

C.A.B. M+ into Captor
Amp - [Speaker Cable] - C.A.B. M+ -[Speaker Cable] - Captor

Captor First
Amp - [Speaker Cable] - Captor - [TRS Cable from line out] - C.A.B. M+

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with today.

bit confused on the wording of this one (probably being stupid!)

“C.A.B. M+ into Captor
Amp - [Speaker Cable] - C.A.B. M+ -[Speaker Cable] - Captor”

Do you mean: Amp - speaker cable - CAB M+ - speaker cable via amp out - Captor speaker input ?
