Two Notes Torpedo Captor

Hi everyone! Just give an update to everyone who has consequences.

I use Orange Terror Bass 500 (8 Om switch) with Torpedo Captor 8 Om without any issues.

1. Instrument cable into the head;
2. Speaker cable into the Captor input (red mark);
3. TRS jack from Captor into audio interface.

I set controls on 10 for Terror Bass and audio interface:

Then, I play it through DAW as usual. I use the Wall of Sound plugin to emulate cab. Without cab emulation, it sounds horrible. You can use the Fridge 9 cab as a free option. It sounds great, but I prefer AmplOld (or Ministry D’Amour Peg 810 Origin) or Babababass for cab sim. Sounds awesome. I owned vintage Marshall cabs for years, and these two gave me the closest feeling to vintage Marshall Eminence speakers.

As I understood, you can reduce the power of your head by using an 8 Om switcher on your head and make it less powerful (250W instead of 500W). Captor creates some noise during playing, which means that it works and is safe.

I used the line out, so I don’t need power in this case. Everything works as it is and sounds fantastic!

Hi @green3101,

Ross from Two notes here - I hope you are well. We have a support article you might want to check out in relation to this here: Can I use an amplifier more powerful than the rated power of a Torpedo product ?

Let us know if you have any questions concerning this - we are always happy to help!
I am interested in using an Ampeg V4B reissue (100 watts tube) with the Two Notes Captor X Reactive Load box and had a few questions.

1. Could you confirm a 100 watt head will not destroy the Captor X when it’s the head is cranked?

2. I can use the captor X without a cab, correct? I think I understood that part.

3. I can run one of the outputs completely unaffected by an IR don’t is essentially a DI off the power tubes. Is this correct?

Thanks for your time!

Hi Ox Han,

Thanks for getting back to me. Please see answers to your questions below.

1. Could you confirm a 100 watt head will not destroy the Captor X when it’s the head is cranked?
Yes, but you will not likely want to run your power stage / master volume at 100% - the results will not be favorable tonally due to the nature of the poweramp itself and you will find the the sweet spot is under this 100% point. I have not used the amp in question, but I have used plenty of Ampeg amplifiers in the past and find 60-80% of max volume is the sweet spot for me!

2. I can use the captor X without a cab, correct? I think I understood that part.
You most certainly can!

3. I can run one of the outputs completely unaffected by an IR don’t is essentially a DI off the power tubes. Is this correct?
Yes indeed using the Dual Mono routing mode. This will send a Dry Amp DI when the Torpedo Processing is disengaged from one of the XLR outputs.

Please let me know if this helps and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Ross
