U.S. Peavey Club

Hey guys Since this is a Peavey club,can I add amps and Cabs to this thread as well? Or do i need to go elsewhere? let me know.Hope you dont mind,I have only had Peavey amps since I started playing Bass Had a 1982 mark 4 bass head with a 2/15 black widow cab that could literally cause earth quakes.Now I have a Peavey combo with 1-15inspeaker. Its A Max 250 combo.And I am totally impressed with it. Great for practice and Gigs.

Same size, different magnetic polarities (and assumed coil wind direction) for the hum cancelling. This is also why you see these with the red wire hot on one pickup and the black wire hot on the other.
That's the catch with buying single, orphan SFs, you might get one that's N up or S up unless the seller knows how to test with a compass.

Well, while the site was down, I received a neck for a little swap on the '87 RicRiot (modified Patriot). I have really taken to those Peavey necks with the 1.75" wide nut. I love my Patriot, but really wanted to get the wider neck to take it even closer to a Ric 4003.
A great condition double stripe/1st gen '85 Patriot neck popped up on ebay and the seller confirmed the 1.75" nut width. It was stripped of all hardware and truss rod cover, but it clearly had the Schallers, so everything (including my Hipshot Xtender) will transfer over nicely. Frets look to be about 90% condition and there is only a couple small dings that will disappear when I lightly sand the back to give it the matte feel I prefer. It might have a hint of ski jump, but that will be determined once it's on the bass and under tension.
I should have it all swapped out by Tuesday or so, looking forward to it! Pics to follow!

What is SF Foundation pickup typical output? 5-6 K ohms? ...and is the output equal for the two pickups? ...or is one higher output than the other?
Please explain how to test with a compass.
I want to test my Patriot pickup to find out if it is N or S up, because I am thinking about adding a second pickup at the neck heel. Not sure if I'm gonna go through with it because it is a mahogany Patriot in near new condition.

All of mine have been in the 5-6K neighborhood, mostly in the mid to lower 5s. They all have equal output.
I have a small compass that's on a keychain. Just point it at the pickup and see whether N or S points at the pickup. If N is pointing at the pickup, it's considered "S Up" and vice versa.

The finish is reasonable but its covered with dried gunk. I did a spot test and the gunk seems to come off fairly easily. There are a couple of dings in the usual places but other than that I think the finish is good. I think I'll go back today and see if I can talk them down a bit more. If I can get it for $125 I might go for it.

Does anyone know if the pots are mounted on the circuit board on this one? Are they easily changeable? And are the stacked pots even available any more...OE or aftermarket? I'm hoping deoxit does the job on the scratchy pots but even then, can the knobs be changed on these pots if I wanted to go to black?

yes the pots are mounted on the circuit board, and yes you can get replacement knobs all over Ebay and other places, they may not "look" exactly the same but they will work just fine. If it doesn't work out, go ahead and buy it for $150, stick it in a box, and ship it to me...I will send ya a shipping label ;)

I did have one of the last generation Dyna 5's and thought it was a great bass...especially in passive. The tone reminded me of the growl you get from a Palladium.

The pots in mine were noisy and they cleaned up just fine with a shot of Deoxit-5 but the volume pot was faulty and I did replace it. I do not remember the pots being soldered to the PC board and do not believe they were.

Thanks Chuck....I stand corrected, I havent taken my preamp out of mine to get to the pots but I was judging it based on how it appeared from the back

There's a gun metal grey 2nd Gen Dyna 5 on ebay. I'm going back and forth with it and a Squier CV 70s J 5 string. This would be the bass that is parked at the practice space to save me hauling gear back and forth.
I'm certainly leaning Dyna 5 just because I have a 1st Gen version of it and would also like to compare and contrast.
The Squier is cool as I am a Fender 5 lover and they are my ideal 5. I have EMGs and BTS to drop in it to make it more performance friendly.
