Best result I've gotten is taking a piece of maple and drilling some holes in it and then taking the maple sawdust and rubbing it into the holes...then add a drop of super glue in each hole. It makes a pretty good match.

Do you use the water thin stuff? I had to plug the holes to drill for those new tuners and I used maple dowels and a touch of the thin CA, and they got pretty dang dark compared to everything else.
They come out darker than the maple of the neck wood but the holes are filled with maple sawdust and not wood filler.
To me, wood filler is forever like cake mix, just don't like the stuff.
Don't know of a filler that ends up matching real well.
Next time I have to do a fill like that I'm gonna try using the sawdust and then a drop of lacquer, that may not darken as much.

That's a very nice bass. Hopefully the Sharpie marks can be removed.
017 serial number is 1984, so this is an early run. Looks like it's in pretty decent shape. You could probably sand the Sharpie off, fill the holes and re-seal.
Im in NC, probably about an 8 hour drive or so for me. Doable if I was dying for it, but meh.

I've been lucky with my last few sales but those were in response to "wants ads". Posting in the mainstream guitar sales spots are only good if you like the sound of crickets

I'm always looking, but that's WAY too expensive (compared to prices we're spoiled by in the past) but if I compared the features to another bass in the $1,500 range, it's a no-brainer. I own a Bquad 4 now in natural, my favorite color, but I need a preamp for it, which are IMPOSSIBLE to find. Mine has wires all over the place and there are no schematics anywhere to be found. So, I bought a Bartolini NTMB for it, which I am looking at now still in the box for when I get the nerve to go ahead and have my local tech install it for me.
EDIT - It's a moot point now, someone already bought it.
