Hi everyone,

I never seen a truss rod nut like this before.

1. Is this a different type of truss rod nut or is it broken?

2. What do I use to turn it?

This is a Peavey Fury bass from 1994

That looks right to me. Its a 5/16 nut. The gibson wrench works for mine... Good luck

If I'am not mistaken it is 5/16" wrench, same Gibson uses. Mine 94' Fury has the same.

That looks right to me. Its a 5/16 nut. The gibson wrench works for mine... Good luck

Great thank you. The truss rod cover broke off who knows how long ago. I'm sure a lot of dusk and gunk got in there. Any idea how I can clean it?

Hmmm...maybe a toothpick and a toothbrush with a bit of white vinegar to cut the gunk...? A little rubbing alcohol maybe?

Thanks, I can probably figure something out. Also, how awesome are these basses? Haha got one yesterday for $100 usd. Was left in a closet for 2 years. The action, relief, and intonation was perfect!

Well it sounds like yours is awesome! Yeah they're great basses. I have a couple of them. Lets see a full picture of yours...

When you get your wrench, go ahead and take off that nut all the way, and clean it thoroughly. I like to load up one end of a q-tip with naphtha, thread it through the nut, then keep going with the dry end to get any debris. Then clean the rod's cavity and threads as best you can. When I reinstall the nut, when its only a few threads on, I like to put a drop of 3-in-1 machine oil in the hole and let it work its way down the rod (just leave the bass sitting upright for a while.) When youre confident it's all worked out of the nut, tighten her up. Looks like yours is just over flush to the rod end, so that would probably be a good reference point to go back to.

I agree with all of this with one exception....I would never use oil on a truss rod because it will soak right into the wood of the neck. Instead I use a very small dab of grease.

Agree, vaseline is pretty safe.

To each their own, grease and vaseline work great too. I would never use enough oil to saturate any wood, just a dab'll do ya

Mech's trick was to put a tiny amount of Vaseline on the threads just inside the bottom of the nut and then put it back on. Worked like a charm for me, so now it's standard practice whenever something new joins the herd.

Howdy all? Does anyone know if a T40 case will fit any other Peavey basses, like a foundation or a 2nd gen Fury?

Yes they will fit...there were some slight differences but they are similar enough. That's a lot of money for one of those to be honest.

To be fair, he's basically giving you the case. To ship a bass now is around $100. If you need it, buy it.

That's what I was thinking... A bomb proof case for $100...less than most gig-bags.

The only downside to these cases are no storage what so ever.
