An Audere would go in if you get the three control one. I have one in a headless I built. Three stacked pots: volume/blend, hi mid/low mid, bass/treble. It's pretty ridiculous.

Frankly, I have no idea what kind they are. The closest ive come to finding replacements were these (these are .022uF, though the stock ones were .047uF I believe.)

I like the stock ones so much for the tonal quality they present when they roll off. They're very inefficient, so they tend to moreso color the tone than completely remove all highs, like the later style ones do. Very usable tone controls.

Those are ceramic. The ones you called Chiclets are probably polypropylene or polyester.

I usually use ceramic, but I bought a mica for the FrankenCirrus (not yet functional)

I always use linear volumes, absolutely. Tone's don't work properly with a linear taper, so always log there. In my experience, super ferrites come alive with 500k's. That said, the tone caps in the 80s peaveys are magically delicious, so I always reuse those when possible. They moved over to the cheap chiclet style in the 90s, which I don't appreciate nearly as much.

I think that cap is a ceramic .02Z Z5U. It's super loosey-goosey in both tolerance (+80%/-20%) and how much the capacitance changes with temperature. Because of this, I have found them to sound a little different in my various basses with them (all the 80s Foundys and Patriot). It can range from .016-.036uF. My Patriot is certainly closer to the .016uF end and is quite subtle in it's roll off, while one Foundy is closer to the other extreme and rolls off more to my preference. I do prefer my single coil bass caps to be at least .033uF, if not .047uF.

Foundation for only $200 in NYC metro (no affiliation). Looks to have the original knobs as well? Also appears to have a wider nut than the typical 1.5"/jazz width (could just be my eyes playing tricks on me)? Great price, if no problems.

That does appear to have the 1.75" wide nut and P knobs. It's a score at $200!

So, has anyone ever modded a 1980's Foundation with a preamp of any sorts ?

I nearly put a Duncan STC-2C-BO in my Foundation. I really like that preamp in a couple other basses--it replaces the tone control and sounds great, built well and cheap as chips. However, I found a Dyna bass for cheap and got it instead. No need to mod the Foundy, then.
I might still drop one of those Duncan preamps in my FoundRiot since I do prefer active basses, and that one is my catch-all, workhorse bass.

I believe they call it a "DynaBass"

Joking aside.

The easiest preamp to fit would be a Tone Monster , either the SBK-2 or the SEB-2.
Both come as 3 pots prewired , pickup grounds go to centre point of the PCB terminal black /pickup hots either side.
PCB uses a mechanical screw fix so no soldering , bridge ground really should be soldered.

Pots are Vol , Balance , stacked Bass/High.

The rest of Ty's Tone Monster range add more features : Mids, variable Mids, preset Mid switch, active/passive Vol, active/passive Vol/Tone.

There's also a take on the "Varitone" , this can work along with the preamps.

I LOVE my Gbass neck. Like an idiot, I JUST realized after two decades it's a Pbass neck, so it is a little chunkier than the Milli neck. Super cool necks with extraordinary feel and meant to be for the touring bassist. No atmospheric changes due to weather, humidity, etc.

Yes, it did not solve any problems... I put in a bart... was almost as useful as when I put a Badass on my mahogany foundation.

My thoughts too --- I built up the GLennium to keep 100% at a weekly church gig (dedicated bass, rack etc)...

The sound crew loves that it never changes and they can test when I'm not there.

I like that it's not my unicorn Black Onyx Millenium OR something expensive

I'm trying to calculate the odds of the one on eBay being a misprint. It looks so different from mine.

I also have one that's similar to the one on Ebay now, besides the misprinted one I posted. It has a dull, flat black look, not a shiny finish where you can see the weave. It's really confusing because this I have clearly says Gbass, but feels like a jazz bass, not a Pbass, like the Gbass should. Which makes me believe just like the Foundation, there were some years where it felt like a Pbass (like my 1987) and others where they clearly felt like a jazz neck.
