That is my favorite Warmoth wood. The neck is gorgeous, too. They make great stuff.

I like the Millennium it's hanging next to.

That's my G Bass. Here are my top 3. I feel very lucky.

I did the same with one of mine and put DragonFire big poles in.

The big poles seem to be a theme in my top three. Actually, make that four. My Ibanez RKB 900 has a Delano P/J set.

OK, so it's 2013ish. I'm looking on Craigslist for bass stuff, just kinda seeing what's out there. Someone's got a listing for "bass parts" for $15. Blurry pic, but I can see a P-ish body, neck, black tuners. Same small town. Figure the tuners are worth the fifteen bucks. Arrange to meet. Girl shows up with this bass, on a skateboard. I try to keep my jaw from hitting the floor, hand her the $15, and take home my new project. Fender neck plate, 1969. Body appears to be legit Fender, very likely also '69, been beat on with a belt sander, but it's mostly all there. Neck is a jazz profile, slab board. No decal. I decide I'm keeping the neck, but the rest can go. I end up selling the raw body to a guy in Finland for $550, and the plate for $125. Bought a squier jazz body in a pawn shop, tossed in some GFS pickups. Still have that bass. All in, I'm into the bass for negative $550.

That deal beat the '72 J I got in about '86 for $175, and the '73 Ric I got for $100 later the same year.

There are two versions of the typical SF pickup, the difference is the coil winding direction and magnetic polarity. Install one of each in a two pickup bass and you get hum cancelling when using both at an equal volume. It's easy to see which version you have by using a compass, some attract N, some attract S. A perfect pair will attract each other when face to face and stick together.

I show an example of magnetic polarity on page 1306, post 26105.
The other thing about these RW/RP pickups is that the wires are also opposing. SFs have black, red and bare wires. The bare wire is always ground. IF you have opposing polarity pickups, use black for the positive on one and red for positive on the other and ground out the other wire for proper phasing. It's kind of funny they did this, but I also found this same wiring scheme with RW/RP Gotoh and Fugi Gen pickups in the pre-Dimarzio era of 80s Ibanez.

Very good info. Yes, I did just that when I soldered the leads to the board on my Dyna bass. Luckily, I had a working Dyna bass so I was able to just copy the wiring and they flipped the red / black on one of the pickups in order to humbuck.

These days it is worth about $1400-$1500 but notice that it has black Hipshot tuners (one quite scuffed up) and none of the photos show the bridge. I bet it has the original gold ABM bridge. Guys are asking crazy prices for Peavey basses and other brands too. Mostly they don't sell until the price is lowered to a reasonable level.
