Good price on a decent looking Sarzo in the Denver area. I exchanged emails with him and he says it needs a truss rod adjustment. Road worn, but for $400 looks like a pretty good deal. He also has a TL6 listed for $800.

So some of you know I got a Dyna some years ago with the intention of stringing it BEAD which I did. I bought it, cleaned it up and immediately strung it BEAD with Chromes. I played it two or three times for a church gig I was doing at the time. Then I put it away and it has sat since then. So today, I made the decision to put it back to EADG and use it as a backup to my Bongo in in my classic rock cover band.

I originally used the mech method to widen the slots where you wrap the larger diameter string in fine sand paper and gently sand down to the bottom of the slot. It worked a charm. This makes it easy to go back to the original string which will still center in the bottom of the fully radiused slot. No need for a new nut. It worked perfectly. Minor tweak to the setup and done.

So far I'm super happy with it. I've never played it before except in the BEAD configuration and I have to say I really love the pre-amp. I had to make a trim pot adjustment to equalize the volumes but once that was done she was ready to rock. No more sitting in the closet for this baby.

I have an 85 Dyna that I bought specifically to try the BEAD tuning. It was when I was in an 80s cover band and was wanting to play legit 80s instruments, but did need the low B string at times. None of my 5ers were from the 80s. The Dyna did an amazing job after setting it up for BEAD, which only needed the nut slots widened and intonated. There is something to an active J type bass that really lends itself well to low tunings. I even 80s cheesed it by using neon green strings!

Well, after playing it that way a few times over a couple years, it was decided that a proper 5 is a better choice.
I switched it back to EADG (with regular colored steel strings) and love it more. Didn't have to recut the nut for the thinner strings, either, just had to reintonate. What a great sounding and playing bass. Plus, it's so murdered out. I may just commit it to DGCF so it rocks as hard as it looks!

There must be at least a couple out there somewhere - the lined fretless one you see here and the fretted one, as used with Whitesnake on the Donington and St. Petersburg videos.

I'd buy it for $400 for sure.

I forget that Rudy did have a relationship with Alembic and Peavey. It's no wonder now that Alembic owners also are Peavey owners. It's in the hour long interview our brother Rodney McG did with him. Wow, sorry TWO hours.

Thanks man. I hope to keep doing projects like this when they arise. It's fun, but a LOT of work, so I have so much more respect for you guys who build stuff from scratch. I'm just assembling and it's very challenging at times.

I've tinkered a little, pulled a few apart, you're a step ahead of me. I'm a carpenter by trade but have never managed to pull together a decent shop. To build one is on my bucket list.
