What a great look, love the color and the grain still pops!! What pickups and preamp did you use?So, just a reminder again family. the BEFORE and AFTER. It wasn't easy. I sure learned a lot, again.
I used a torch and burned it, then many coats of gun stock oil.
It will be for sale soon, fairly inexpensive, too.

Thanks. I'm not surprised that it still pops because grain will always pop more when you add some kind of stuff other than paint.
I used Monster preamp for the first time and I will continue to use them. I am SO impressed with it. The pups are passive not sure of the brand, but I had two MM's and this one is way stronger output than the other I have because I tested it with a meter. The jazz is an open pole EMG Select, at least that's how I bought it. It came NOS from Europe and I've never seen one with visible poles, so it could be mislabeled, and it doesn't say Select anywhere, but it's punchy. Both are. Thanks again.
I have used the Monster before and agree that it is a great and very versatile preamp.

How are you liking the RicRiot? I really love the RicRiot over a stock Patriot, for my needs.
Is that the Tone Monster preamp?
I have a Tone Monster SG-2D mid boost in a guitar. I gave it a shot in the dark try because I love mid boosts on my guitars, and it was $25 (shipped) new. It is darn close in sound and performance as my $100 Demeter MB1. Good stuff!
I also have EMG SPC/Jackson JE1200/early 80s Fender MDX on other guitars.
I have a Jackson Concert Series pj bass with a tonemonster pre in it, and I have no complaints. I'm not a big active guy, but it was upgraded when i bought it and i thought it sounded great. I actually put it up for sale a few days ago, since I'm tryna get some scratch for a bass I really want, but this one is really killer and I'd keep it if it was more my style.
I can imagine that the bass pre has to be pretty good, given my experience with the mid boost. It's clearly imported from Asia, which keeps the costs down vs my usual suspects that tend to be domestic (other than my UK made J Retro, which is soooo killer).
I just looked again and it's called the BELCAT 3 band active preamp. It has a MUCH better input jack, solder joints, thicker wire than the generic Chinese 3 band. I have a Monster in another bass and they sound the same to me. Dead silent if you're using noiseless pickups. Shipped from USA.
Nice. I just switched my defretted G Bass from Labella Black Tapes, to Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. I like the sound of the magnetic pup much better, but the saddle piezos don't sound as good. I have a set of GHS Bronze Pressurewounds I might try.

I remember that brochure and picture. It had me wondering "where's the yellow Patriots, let alone most any yellow Peavey?" Other than green or black, I love yellow instruments. Only have my Sonor drums in yellow.

I swapped the original preamp in my Cirrus 6 out for an EMG BQC preamp so I now have two working USA Cirrus preamps if anyone is interested.
I really like the EMG preamp in the cirrus. You lose a little bit of that low mid growl the Cirrus has, but the Cirrus has SO much of that, and I really wanted a more open sound, which I think the EMG delivers on. Running it with 18v, and the variable mid switch is a great addition. If anyone is considering the swap, you will have to widen the holes for those pot stems to fit through.

My “new” 198X Foundation.
Purchased as non-working, with a bad neck. That’s okay, since I dislike nearly everything about the original neck anyway. Too thin, heavy tuners, flat headstock, small radius. Not for me.
So I built my own neck, nice and flat, nice and wide, blacked out, set up for a Nova headless system, which also allowed me to tighten up the string spacing at the bridge end.
The body had its factory black paint, but was pretty scuffed up. So I hydro-dipped it with various glitter colors. You know, subtle.
The Super Ferrite pickups are fed through a passive blend, then into a John East two-band active circuit, then to a master volume. Sound is powerful, detailed, and aggressive. Just the way I like it!

Maybe Fred from Peavey has some room for your ideas. I know we'd love to hear that John East sing. I had an East pre in a custom bass that UPS destroyed on delivery (long story) and it was one of the BEST sounding preamps. I could hear where that $300 went.
