My Foundation is an '83 and it isn't particularly heavy. Lighter than my G&L and that one isn't particularly heavy.

I thought I could see a shadow in that fret area. I'd give the steaming a shot. I've had really good luck doing that on the back of the neck. Haven't had to do it on the fretboard, but no reason it shouldn't work. Wet cloth, hot iron, do it in short bursts and keep an eye on it.

The steam forces itself into the wood fiber and swells them so the wood starts to fill back in. Have also seen people have a lot of luck with just setting a drop of water into the gouge and letting it set for a time and then hitting it quickly with steam.

I have D'Addario XL170's on my G&L and I really like those too. I also have Ken Smith Burners on my Foundation. The DR's are on the TBC, but I really like their sound.

I would have them on the Foundation, but the only store open only had the Ken Smith Burners. Not a huge disappointment-- it sounds good as well. The D'Addario's might be a good fit, if you don't want to go to the hassle of returning. Try different ones when those die.

Most of all, have fun with that solid old Peavey!

@No Neck - West Side Represent! I live in a subdivision off Galloway, Rd., closer to Hall. But I take Alkire in and out most of the time.

As for weight... after 20'ish years it's hard to know what I'm trying to remember. I do remember several of us commenting how silly heavy the Peavey was... there was a Patriot around at that time too... maybe we were remembering that. Or maybe it was a case? Or maybe we needed to eat our wheaties, who knows. I do know the amps were a real beast... someone said they were lead lined in the bottom or something.

I had a Gorilla practice amp and I thought it was light until I picked up a little Acoustic to practice on yesterday... yikes, I think my one-year-old could bench press it!

@oldrookie - Thanks for the steaming tips... I might give that a try.

I brought my Foundation home today. Engineer swapped polarity in both pickups and she is ready to roll again. Sounds just like it always did.

Now I need to get serious about modding the trussrod tool I have. It works fine on the Fury, but the Foundation nut is just deep enough that I can't seat the tool on it without the handle hitting the top of the fretboard just above the nut.

I did find a socket that will fit, but wasn't comfortable with the stress on the fingerboard when I used it.

Should be able to cut the handle off, grind that area smooth and then have a welder attach the handle to the top of the tool. Think that will work.

The non-Peavey socket option has me properly worried. I did it once, but I don't think I'll do it again.

I have the tool you both linked me to and it works fine on the Fury. For some reason it doesn't reach the nut in the Foundation. The handle hits the top of truss rod hole before it seats properly on the truss rod nut.

It appears the handle prevents the socket part from seating proper on the nut.

I'm talking about modifying the original Peavey-style tool so that the handle is attached on the top instead of the side of the 5/16" socket part. It does not appear that I need much more depth to sit properly, but I don't think a new one is going to reach either.

Hey, folks-
I might have the opportunity to get a used Fury (black, black). feels nice, love the maple fretboard, and the pup holder/thumbrest thing. (technical term?)

just wondering- could i get a quick review of the fury bass? just some general pros/cons would be great. thanks!

Using the search this thread tool at the top of page will weed out a lot material you don't want and let you focus your attention the Fury.

Here's my take..the Fury is a precision-style pickup bass with a true jazz neck. Very comfortable and fast neck. Balances well on a strap...sounds good with flats--I particularly like D'Addario Chromes. Mine is strung BEAD and it holds tune very well. Mine is an older one and the machine tuners are quality pieces. Bridge is solid.

Sounds like a p-bass should, neck feels like a jazz-bass should and can be had for really low dollars. Hard to argue with it as a real player bass.

This is a random-common event. I've run into it a few times.

I open the truss rod hole (with a small high quality rat tail file)...

CAUTION... PM me to discuss how to ensure you don't open it up too far (hint outline the truss cover via painters tape before shaving the hole)

Not sure opening the truss rod opening is the issue unless I misunderstand your suggestion.
