U.S. Peavey Club

Hello all, I am here to join the club with my Peavey BQuad 5.

Plays like a dream. The action is super low. The interesting thing about this bass is that it is much easier to get a note to sustain. This is most likely because of the graphite neck. I have had it for a few weeks and have adjusted my technique accordingly. Never really tapped, but I the bass is so easy to play that I am trying it now.

The tone overall is modern and bright. There are many options to fatten up the sound. Slap sound is killer. Very in your face.

I got it from MNAirHead and it was a great experience dealing with him. The bass is practically new and the setup was great!

I know many people say this, but it really doesn't make sense why these aren't made anymore!

Peavey really didn't know how to market this one.. they were expensive enough that stores didn't carry them.. average bass players don't know who Bromberg is... was very risky for a store to have one on the shelf... most were special order. In interviews Bromberg has never knocked the bass... there have been comments of how it was ahead of it's time (market didn't get it).

I personally (opinoin) attribute some of this stuff to the company selling premium instruments under a commodity name (example other companies spin off a division... honda/acura... toyota/lexus)

How tough is it to figure out the zillion controls on it?

Played it in a band setting yet?

The sustain is the Modulus neck.. this also attributes to the overtones etc.

Sounded great in a trio with flamenco guitar and percussion in a medium sized practice area. It would be interesting to hear it in a high volume setting. I am using a Markbass Jeff Berlin combo.

Hehe, the tone controls are a bit daunting. Luckily, it is not too hard to find a great sound! I am really interested in hooking it up stereo to try that out.

No sir, just took a pair of creme covers that I had lying around and threw 'em on, I love the look of creme covers with a maple fretboard. They are the original pickups.

You'll have to remove the pickguard and send it to someone who can do a copy based on the original. I have gotten very good pickguard replacements this way from Jeannie Pickguards. The guy who owns the Jeannie shop is gruff and can be difficult to work with, but his work is absolutely perfect. Every pickguard I've had him replicate, from a Mexican Fender to a USA Fender to a cheapie Jay Turser has come back noticably superior to the original in fit and finish. Highly recommended.

Today was a good day.

I got a call from the luthier saying he's finished the setup on my Foundation! He was very complimentary of the bass and it's tone. Considering how concerned he was about the amount of bow in the neck, I was very pleased to hear that.

Since buying it a couple weeks ago, I'd been a little concerned about some intonation issues.. especially on the E string. After the luthier expressed his concerns yesterday, I'd even considered taking it back to Guitar Center... which would have broken my heart since this is the bass I'd always wanted as a kid.

Now I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and get back to practice!

Thanks! After picking it up and playing a little last night... wow what a difference a good setup makes. It just feels so fluid in my hands (well as fluid as these out of shape fingers will let it be).

Practice has been hit and miss so far. Holidays combined with my work schedule have limited my free time but I've managed to work through a few scales and warmups most nights. It's not 100% like starting over... I still remember some technique but the speed and confidence is a work in progress. I think my old beater from back in the day was a short scale so there's some work getting my right hand stretched out.

I am as much in love with the tone today as I remember from back in the day. I'm still working on dialing in my exact preference but what I've got so far is very warm and appealing.

I still owe you guys a picture of her cleaned up and set up.
