Whoa - $700 for a Foundation is ridiculous. They are good basses but that’s over the top
I'm curious, what would you say would be a fair price? It may be high, but its not a bad place to start...certainly not over the top in my opinion.
Even at pre-covid, pre-inflation prices that one would have been fairly priced at ~ $500. The only thing that's ridiculous is that the value of our currency has been gutted. Want the vintage Foundations in the specialty finishes?....guess what?
Edit: I'll add that an '83-84 Fender Jazz in a Custom Color, or an AVRI from same era, will sell for multiples of what that Rose Foundation is priced at.

If I saw that earlier, I would have probably pulled the trigger on that Foundy, even at $750 shipped. It's good to go, as it's been refurbished, P knobs, SS frets, case and Rose Pearl.
At the high end yes but not really over the top for first year bass in that color/condition with with matching headstock. Very rare find there. I hope someone here got it.
Over here £200 might snag you a sale but that's only a might.
Fella I sold a T-40 got in touch asking for resale advice on that and a Foundation. Passed the buck on the 40 but I had been tracking recent Foundation prices; it was grim. One lad got £137 on his 2nd attempt on an eBay auction, another withdrew his unsold at £200. National pawnshop chains had 2 listed for months at £199.
No surprise his £300 listing failed to attract any interest, a £390 eBay lot ended the same way last week.
With 4 Foundations left I'm losing no sleep, most I paid was £100 for 1st year factory fretless inc hard shell case
I wouldn't pay $700 for any pink bass....because it's pink.
Relax, it was just one bass; not even sure it sold.
Over on Music GoRound you can still pick up Foundations and Furys for $230 to $399, also a stripped Dyna Bass going for $250.
It makes me want to sell one of my flamed maple top Millennium 5’s - if people are willing to pay $550-$750 for a Foundation……..
Same. My all black 85 Dyna 4 was $325 about 7 years ago. My 91 Dyna 5, after a couple replacement parts and a trip to Warpedneck.com ended up being $350 a couple years later. Now, it seems that sellers are asking $600ish for them, but not getting that, maybe closer to $450-500.
$700 for a Foundy does seem steep, however, I happily paid $400 for my 84 Foundation about 10 years ago when this generation of Foundys were usually selling for closer to $250-300. This one was spot-on, perfect in every way, a really good one, the best I have owned and played and continues to be so. It also had the case and I could use my Guitar Center card to finance it and get $20 kicked back for using the card.

The Rose/Pink commands the highest price of the Foundations due to rarity. Also, the seller did a lot of work on it, including a SS fret job, so he was asking to recoup the cost. As crazy as $700 sounds, I would have paid that for a pink one with a (presumably) nicely done SS fret job, case and P knobs. It seemed that it was good to go and didn't need any work done. Almost as if one was buying it brand new. If one popped up in NOS or nearly mint original condition, it would also sell for $600+, easily. If one popped up in that ultra rare Yellow, @Bleecker and I would start throwing $100 bills at it until one of us gave up! Hahaha
A similar thing to the Rose Foundys happened with the 50s Fender Baja Telecaster. Super high demand. It's a MIM product, designed by the Custom Shop. If you like classic Telecasters, it's truly amazing. They sold for $650-700 new 7-9 years ago, used ones held their value (if you could find one) at $500-600. They also had a 60s version of the Baja, but it wasn't nearly as hot as the 50s. Well, the models were discontinued about 6 years ago and the used market immediately freaked out. The 50s were selling for $700-850 and now they are nearly impossible to find for under $1000.
A couple years ago I'd have paid $700 for a minty Heather Pearl (or whatever that lilac-ish color is called) Foundation, and would have felt good about finding a bucket list bass.

I am thinking the Rose Pearl is what the previous owner of my Fury was going for. Those foundations with the matching headstock are awesome! My first days of playing bass were spent eyeing my buddy's white foundation with white headstock and rosewood board... that's the one that got me hooked (I've owned quite a few of that era basses, but not a single one with matching headstock or rosewood board).
Listed in the catalogue as Foundation Customs.
RRP for standard Foundation was $294, Custom rosewood was $394.
I paid $225 for a Mahogany/Rosewood Foundation in 1988 (no case)
