QUESTION -- what is this tuner, I buy a standard and double face it to the bass

These affix a small clip to the bass via a tuning machine mounting screw.

I'm wondering if Peavey might have got a deal or something on some #43awg wire for that batch of pickups. The bobbins used in the SF was pretty filled up even with only 5.2k reading. The 6.8k reading sounds like a 5.2k reading /number of turns but with #43awg wire. If there are any failed pickups out there I could take apart to confirm that model could be added to the option list

As usual, always a good source of interesting information about basses, guitars and related.
I've been hearing about lawsuit instruments since I worked in a music store in 1975/76.
Ibanez and Hondo were sending us copycat instruments left and right, they were still not great at that point.
Then we heard that Gibson wanted us to not sell these instruments.
The House of Guitars was a huge seller of instruments of all kinds so I guess the owners ignored Gibson's complaints.
Later, I heard stories about the lawsuit era Fender copies, I don't remember seeing good Fender copies in 1975/76.
Didn't know that the Fender lawsuit thing never really happened.


I had a spare T20 loaded body that I sold to somebody here, I don't remember who though.

That would be very kind of you to donate to pickup science. I would do as I did with Xso's SF pickups sent in. I could document everything and share. If the coil is damaged talking it apart I cannot always rewind so you get back a functioning pickup. If you want to send it in DM me for address.

That would be generous and great, then everybody gets access to new available good quality T20/Slant Fury pickups in the future.

The higher resistance and gauss tracks in relation to the tone of the T20/Slant Fury SF tone: bigger, warmer, smoother. You might be on to something with the 43awg wire.

I think the Slant Super Ferrite pickup makes one of the nicest sounding one pickup vintage basses.
There are split P pickups that sound great and some that could be a lot better, the same with the 51/54P type single coils.
I like the T20/Slant Fury sound better than the Foundation and the Patriot, which are both good.

FWIW If I remember correctly, the pickup housing is slightly different in dimension from the Patriot/Foundation. I remember working on a T20 with a broken pickup lead (right at the housing) a few years ago and I considered a swap, a Patriot SF would not fit the T20 pickup ring. Something to check if they need to work as replacements. I have a spare pickup ring I can send you.

I agree with the others by the way T20 is a great sounding pickup, I love mine!

EDIT: just threw some calipers on my Foundation and T20 best I could without taking pickup rings off and can confirm. T20 housing is slightly longer/skinnier.

I’ve tried to make it a point to put the TL in the rotation and show it some love. Used it on a gig recently and it was a joy to play as always.

Keep in mind that DI and cab mic'ing only is a small glimpse into how awesome this head is. The full stack moving all that air is something to behold in person!

Oh yeah I was just talking about the part that comes up through the pickup ring, since they look very similar. The body rout in the T20 will easily swallow a Patriot pickup. The T20 pickup is a beast

I agree. My Slant Fury gets taken to every gig and played at most of them. The other Peaveys are jealous but what can I do?
