Yes , pole piece. I designed this as a mechanically held together piece since at that time there was no cover options. The Allen heads are the bobbin.

These pickups now reside in my favorite Peavey...my '85 Foundation "Sedona Lee" who was used to record all of the sound clips from the various prototypes...she's a part of TB history now.

She'll be out of the shop soon and I will post pics as per @58kites request to for us to show him all the cool Peaveys.

That's a real beauty! The grain is killer (that would be some rugged terrain) The pickup ring is cool, I didn't know someone was producing them like that!

Looking for slant size ceramic magnets on the web has been unsuccessful. Nothing close. The width is always a jump from 2 inch to 3 inch. No 2.5 x 1 inch anywhere. The magnets are the biggest hurdle as of right now.

If it is possible to do some kind of batch purchase of these slant pickups the money from the sale could be used to order the custom magnets. A magnet order usually takes about 3 weeks.

To have covers made CAD drawings would be needed and the smallest order possible is about 10 covers. IDK if the generous designer of the SF pickup covers would donate his time and skill to this effort.

Or

Blades could be cut and plated for a exposed blade pickup made from vulcanex with a large baseplate to place the large magnets on. This would cut out the need for CAD and covers.

Another option would be a pickup like @XsoGol prototype custom order duel pole I designed. This would be the design with best price as a lot of the files are already created and tested

Feedback on this post is appreciated , trying to see if this project can move forward. If there is enough interest in recreation to get over the magnet order. Normally I would just order to have the magnets in stock like on the other designs but I really don't know what could be done with these huge ceramic mags outside the slant and the Toaster I think

And...because I can't help myself... @Matt Kustom once you figure out how to make these, how hard would it be to try to make an inline humcancelling version like you did with the Foundation/Patriot (non-slant) SFs? I'd want to do a humcancelling set with one slant SF (SSF) and one Foundation/Patriot SF (FPSF).

It makes perfect sense that a bass with this Dyna preamp would sound better with the preamp completely out of the signal path vs 'passive' mode. It's a very cool design that has features that really didn't become standard until the last couple decades: active/passive with a passive tone control. However, it's a preamp design from the mid 80s, so it's not the most transparent sounding preamp.

I learned a lot about that pre when I got my 91 Dyna 5 as a basket case project. The preamp was pretty rough. The switch was shot and it needed a new jack. Most of the pots were janky at best: loose torque, scratchy/noisy, not making good contact throughout the sweep... As everyone here knows, finding those spider pots is impossible, and it's rare a working Dyna preamp came up for sale. Replacing the jack and switch was easy, the pots were not. I gave up looking for a pre or the pots. I then removed the pots from the board, took them apart, cleaned them up, reassembled them and reinstalled on the board. Fingers crossed, they all worked! I got lucky. If that fix didn't work out, I was looking into Vol Blend Tone passive mode or perhaps an Audere preamp.

Of my 3 "once they were Dyna" basses only my original DynaBass 5 is intact and functioning. This bass was from the prototype run sent to select dealers, I was at LMSI and often got to see what was coming guitar and bass wise. We were supposed to return the bass to Peavey but I sent a check instead, Hartley was not very happy about that. I had already bonded with the bass and had used it to record with 2 of the bands I was playing in at the time. The other 2 have gone passive; the afore mentioned Verdine White /Sarzo and a Unity LTD that has Seymour Duncans and a 3 way with volume and tones for each pickup.

This sounds like a good idea, all your pickups on your site look like quality hand made pickups... I think most people like that.

No problem , I just have to resize a few rectangles on the SF programs since the slant is pretty much the same as SF just shorter and wider.

These slant pickups require the equivalent of 8 guitar Humbucker magnets. Crazy stuff. The issue ordering these magnets is I have to meet a MQO , minimum quantity order. And because of the magnet weight + minimum order the shipping is going to go up since shipping is by weight.

So far it looks like 3 pickups to be ordered. I'm guessing without talking to my magnet supplier (will talk to her on Monday) that at least 6 pickup sales will be needed to cover magnets and shipping.

I was calling my Slant Fury ash but kodiakblair says it's hackberry and I believe him after looking at The Wood Database site many times...
Your body doesn't look exactly like ash, seems to be something different and very nice.
Maybe kodiakblair Davie can chime in and take a stab at what this body is made of.

All this Slant Fury talk inspired me to get mine to the spa...

I don't usually like red basses/guitars/drums/cars/trucks/motorcycles but that is a sweet looking bass and I know it sounds excellent.

I know it was a nod to the F@nder split P pickup but I would bet you can't hear the difference if it was oriented traditionally and not slanted.

It's quiet due to the low wind / shielded design

I’m not sure, actually? It’s a mahogany Patriot body. However it’s raw/unfinished and has a serial number stamped underneath the neck plate. You can tell it was never installed and looks like it sat on a shelf for 30+ years . I was planning to do an oil rub finish on it after cleaning up the shelf wear.
