I will take some photos after I complete the string change, clean and polish. The TI flats are on order and due to arrive next week. So far I have adjusted the relief, string saddles, intonation and installed a Switchcraft output jack. The bass plays well but the tone is not quite my thing with the GHS Boomers that came on it. I used Boomers for years but switched to D'Adarrio XL's about 10 years ago and use them on most basses. I also use TI flats and Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on some of my basses. For what it is worth, I use a Fender Rumble 800 on a couple of gigs but mostly use Mesa Subway gear and favor the D-800+ head and the Subway 115 cabinets. The Rumble is not in the same class as the Mesa gear but sounds quite good and the 29 pound weight is appreciated!

I scrounged in the string drawer and came up with a set of TI flats so I went ahead with making the bass look and play its best. I polished the frets (no fret wear...was this bass under a bed for 30 years?) conditioned the fingerboard, removed the bridge, took it apart, polished it and reassembled and then waxed the bass. Then I installed the new strings.

It set up nicely but as mentioned in an earlier post I had to raise the saddles on the A and D strings or they fretted out above the 12th fret. The strings are about even height now so I guess someone had them set low and probably never played up the neck. All the money notes are down near the nut, right?

These basses were made in 1992/1993 so it is at least 32 years old. I paid less than a Standard Fender or less than the better Squier basses and this one was supposed to come with the original case. The guy who packed it did not include the case so I either have a price adjustment coming or a case. Either way I will be happy. The bass plays beautifully and sounds great. No doubt someone will try to buy it from me when I play it out where other bassists are there. It happens every time I play a Peavey USA bass in a room full of musicians.

One other thing. The bass weighs 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

The last one I had was red and I prefer the look of this black one. My main bass these days is a gloss black Ernie Ball Bongo 6. I like the gloss black basses.

Looks like a new bass. I think it was kept in a case in a closet.
I like a black body with a rosewood fretboard.
So much better than the Toys R Us red that Peavey often chose for Fury basses.
Now it just needs a good tort pickguard!
25-40 year old Peavey basses in very good condition come up fairly often.
I've gotten several of them on the cheap.
That keeps my desire for old (and new) Fender basses very low.
Between used Peavey and used Yamaha basses my urges to spend money are kept to a minimum.

I made one a few weeks ago. I had an effed-up B/W/B pickguard and just traced the outline of my old broken cover and then took a vibro saw to cut the piece out, then a little sanding to get it just right. Drilled the mounting hole and used a blow dryer to bend it to shape.

It's been decades... I used to pop them out of notebook covers. I do not have the template.

OR if someone has one to sell, I'd do that too

The last couple of Peavey pickguards I bought were made by a friend of kodiakblair (Davie).
One of them was a tort guard for my Gen 1 Fury.
His price and delivery were good.
I will have to look up some Paypal history to find him, Davie may be able to give you his contact info quicker than I can.

Acoustically, it sounds GREAT, and passive it is a great bass! The bones are there!
