I almost never play 4 string basses. Most of my gigs are jazz or jazzy pop music and I usually play an Ernie Ball Bongo 6 string. However, I got hired to play with a group that plays mostly country/Americana music so I think a 4 string P bass should be a perfect choice for the gig. I have a really nice G&L Tribute P bass with Ash body and Rosewood fingerboard. I played it for a while and it sounds really nice but I was thinking perhaps another bass would be a better choice. I have a Squier P/J Precision with EMG Geezer Butler pickups so I played it for a while and liked the tone better than the G&L. Then I got out my Peavey Forum passive P/J and not only does it feel and play better it sounds fantastic. All three basses have TI flats on them so I was making a nice comparison through the same amp.
The Forum with passive P/J pickups is a really great bass. They made them for 2 years and most folks bought the Forum Plus (active P/J) so the passive basses are seen less often. I highly recommend the passive bass. The J pickup is a side by side humbucker so no hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

34" scale. J style neck. Mine is also lightweight.
Was out with the side project band this past Saturday night. We’ve had a little bit of a weather swing here in central TX and I had a little bit of a neck shift on the TL that I didn’t get around to addressing beforehand. I surprise myself with how well I know that bass…. don’t even need to check the relief, I can just feel when it’s off. Got through the gig fine but playing was a little off. Anyhow, I got it out on Sunday afternoon and made the necessary adjustments. Playing smooth as silk once again. It seems like I need to adjust the neck in the summer and winter kind of like clockwork. 1/4 turn always does the trick.
I had a generation 2 TL5 that I sure miss. Mine was lovely flamed Maple with a see thru blue finish. Unfortunately it had a large chip in the finish at the tip of the headstock and I sold the bass thinking I would get one in better condition. I did get another but it did not have the magic the first one had. It was a fantastic bass.
I'm likely going to start paring down the collection soon, I guess I don't NEED a pair of Peavey US bolt on fivers in bubinga with custom clear coat finishes.

For now I'll take your suggestion. Will be my half step down base at next weekend's gig. It has old dead round wounds on it. I've never changed the strings since I've owned it since it's just been a practice bass. Probably put GHS Pressure wounds on..
I've been purging basses and parts locally to make ready for a retirement move 1100 miles northeast to near the Asheville area.
Currently have a T40 toaster pickup if any of you fellow Peavey guys are looking for one.
I bought it from one of you fellas and I just did not get around to installing it in any of my project basses.

Had a time wasting dreamer wannabe ask about a Peavey, radio silence after I'd dug it out and sent photos. Had to pull 7 other basses out of the way to reach the Peavey so thought "Stuff this, I'm going to list them"
Had solid buyers for 5 of them within 45 minutes
Course none of those 5 were Peaveys, still face the horrendous task of trying to find buyers for them
The one Peavey Fury I have left is a 1989 Gen 2 with an EMG Geezer Butler pickup in it.
It's immaculate and the neck is very good.
Whoever buys it will be getting a killer P Bass that I would put up against tons of much more expensive basses.
And it's 8 1/4 pounds.

At least you will find a buyer, I got ghosted while asking Squier Affinity money for my 1st gen Fury

I think I lied though....
In addition to the blue Fury I have that Foundation S body here that might be maple or might be some other beautiful wood.
I'm finally done with the refinish and put a 1987 Fury neck on it.
I found a bridge I like for it, and I have set of Lindy Fralin P&J pickups.
I just painted the pickup cavities with conductive paint last weekend, nothing left to do but put the bridge on, install the pickups and pots and wire it up.
Probably won't sell it right away since I don't know if it is going to be good or real good or super duper great yet.
The '87 Fury neck fits the pocket closely with no gap, I like when that happens.
I like that particular neck which is why I didn't let it go with the bass it came on.
The fretboard edges feel softer than many Peaveys and better than tons of other basses.

You're making me want to but more peaveys. I My first bass was a fury. I went through many other basses. Kept coming back to the fury. I had it right the first time. Already bought another fury I don't need. I would like a forum on top of this.I'll bring our numbers up to 3

Most of the time they are good basses and I think sometimes they are very good basses if you consider a Fender bass good.
I have never owned an expensive bass, or a five string, or six string bass. I've only had one neck through. I don't buy high end furniture basses. My Gen 1 Fury was as good as a USA Precision for sure. My Gen 2 blue Fury above is as well.
Buying used Peavey basses is addicting because they can be had cheap and sometimes they are Fender killers.
I had a T-40 when I was a kid. It might have weighed as much as me. I bought it at a pawn shop. The owner owed my dad a favor so he basically gave it to me at cost I think.
I traded that 40 for a set of old BIC speakers.
From time to time I would think about that T-40 for a spell, and how it sounded.
Recently I found a cheap USA Cirrus locally on CL and it’s great.
Now I have Peavey alerts on the auction sites and am considering selling my last Fender.
