Really I just bought a five string accelerator 2t for 166 bucks that baby was over 700 in 1991 and it's made in the USA. I love the sound and this baby sounds amazing. I bought a 1991 jazz bass for 500 and just sold it for 800. Peaveys don't hold up in the used market as well as others that's but deserve a better rep.

I was referring to an Epic or Essence. NOT an SC or JE. I am not out of touch, I just wasn't clear enough.
Oh, and FYI, I DID by an SC deluxe for $1,500 once from a guy who owned two of them. That was a once in a lifetime deal, though and I know that.
Anyway, over the last few years I've bought three Spoilers for $1,000 each, a few Epic's for $1,000 and I even bought an Essence for $650 - I have sold ALL of them because the necks on the Cirrus feel way better. I DO like the sound of Alembic pickups, hence I may a "Cirralembic" , which is a USA Cirrus with MXY pickups and Essence electronics.
So, I am not as out of touch as you think, man. Maybe we just disagree, but it's all good.
I am not going to argue with you, but "dreaming of owning" a $5,000 and then falling for the Alembic myth and realizing that, like any bass, they are just not for everybody. There are many boutique brands out there that deserve the name recognition that Alembic does, but Alembic was the first, so that's the way it goes.
I have owned EVERY Alembic there is (except for a Series 1 and 2) including a $5,500 Mark King Deluxe, which nailed the Jimmy Johnson Series II tone, and it weighed 13 pounds !! The neck felt like a Fender neck. I did not like it. That's MY opinion.
Also, why is it that another TB'er here sold his $5,500 Triple Omega with Anniversary Electronics BUT kept his Cirrus ??
Because some people just like chocolate better than vanilla. No one is right or wrong, just different.
Most people dream of owning a Ferrari, too (Not me, I dream of owning a 1970 Chevy Chevelle) but ask any Ferrari owner and he'll tell you it's the most uncomfortable car to ride in. So, expensive doesn't always mean all that.
In saying that, I will say the Cirrus is just a better bass

He's not that far off. A brand new Alembic Rogue 4-string lists at $7,500. Now I'm not sure how Alembic works as far as MSRP vs. street price, but let's say worst case it's 30% discount. At $7,500, that translates to $5,250 street. A nice Rogue just got bid up to $2,000 on ebay (didn't sell). That's a 62% hit - ouch! Even Peavey doesn't take a beating like that on the used market.
1991 Dyna Bass in stunning white arrived today.
Very nice! I've only seen 2 of those in white in my last couple years of searching the 'bay for US peaveys, and both were in cruddy condition, that one however has quite the gleam to it!
Thanks! The volume pot is a little scratchy at the top of its range, and the electronics have a little bit of hum (cancelled by running it through a DI). I think a trip to the tech will clean those little problems up, no trouble.
Just added two new (to me) USA Peavey basses over the last couple of weeks.
First up is a Foundation S in blue. I really like the PJ pickup combination on this. I put new nickel powerwound SIT strings on and it sounds great. The pickups are active on this one.
Next I have a green TL-5 with the VFL pickups. Serial places it in 1993. I have mixed feelings about this one, it sounds great, but I'm not sure I like the green that much. I may be putting this one in the TB classifieds.

Never heard of tapered core strings, in what way are they tapered, and what does it do for sound/tension/installation?
