Hey Keith, how do the first and second gen TL-6s compare?

Were the TL-5's and TL-6's - either generation - sold in colors other than the blue, green, red and orange trans finishes that make them look like candy? Any clear trans finishes, or solid colors?

They had trans black also..

Around the transition time they started doing some odd colors.. Here's my 1st gen TL-Five in "Eerie Dess Blue"

Hmmmm...haven't really had a chance to really A/B 'em yet but the first gen does seem to play better. I am still trying to iron out the setup on the 2nd gen model. I just picked it up last sunday the 27th. It cost me $660 + 9 hours of drive time and my gas cost. Not too terrible and I got to more of arkansas than I thought I would. I do love the TL models though!

That is sick. I am not a 5'er guy, so I've never even picked up a Tim Landers.

To me, it looks like a Dyna Bass (on steroids) and/or a Rudy Sarzo bass. Am I correct, except it has Schaller bridge ? That color is sweet, btw.

Here's my Fury. Serial #'s first two digits are 08. Does anyone know when these were made? I figured it is like a 97 or sometime close.

This thing plays and sounds great. No intonation problems, low action, sits well in the mix.

I was thinking about replacing the pg though. Black/white or white pearl from pickguard heaven; can't decide which. Opinions?

Is that a Fury next to it? I have a red Fury with maple board, but not metallic or pearl finish like yours.

Do anyone know if all VFL pickups in USA Cirruses are the same size 4, 5 or 6 string I heard that they are but I don't know for sure? I am only asking because I will be replacing my neck pickup because of issues that it is having.

Pretty sure that 5 and 6 string are the same size, but the 4 string might be smaller.

I believe it's a unity series limited model technically. I used to have a trans black one in the early 90's. What I wouldn't give to get that one back (or one just like it ). It's basically a TL-4 if ya break it down. And those are really hard to come by these days. That was the most expensive one yet! But it is most definately worth it!

Haven't been around much lately, but here's a club I should have joined quite a few years ago.

Here's my baby. '79 T40. I've got the original tolex case as well. I got her in near mint condition with the pickguard label/film still on it around 2003 or so. Still in good shape, though she got a few dings before I learned to take better care.

I liked it so much that when it came time to make a Darkstar bass I first used a T-40...

...and then (after selling the body back to a friend) had a custom body built to accommodate the Darkstars and a T-40 neck (I love the T-40 neck shape).

The result is below and is my main player.

Also, for a while I had an original style Fury. Nice bass, but horrible neck dive and though it sounded good, I already had a P-bass that I liked.

Suffice to say, I'm currently the proud owner of 1.5 USA Peavey's (the 79 T-40 and the Franken bass above). I tell myself I don't need anymore, but if a burgandy or sunburst T40 or T-45 were to present itself at a reasonable price, I'd be hard pressed to resist. As you can see from the link in my sig, I've got a bit of interest in these bases.

I'm a newby on here and I posted a question about my Grind 5 string. I was told it was one of the early ones. It has the routed out area on the bottom part of the body where it meets the neck. Just out of curiosity is it American made?

Some of the early grind models where American made. The 4 string was a p/j and the 5 string was a jj. I've played both and they had a very nice tone.
