The strap and coil cord were not original. If I remember correctly, there should have been 2 Allen wrenches (one for the bridge saddles and one for the neck tilt) and the funky truss rod wrench.
I do remember rectangular tolex cases being used when the molded plastic ones were in short supply.

Hey guys I'm about to score a rare Peavey foundation 5 with VFL pickups in a trade. Guy says the serial number is 10546382. Anyone know when it was made? Seems like a recent serial number.
Can anyone tell me more about the foundations with VFL pickups also? Like when they were made and just how rare they are? Also when did they stop making foundations in USA?

All Foundation basses are US-made. They stopped making Foundations around 2001. VFL pickups on Foundation basses are far from rare. In fact, they're commonplace. 5-string VFL Foundations are less common than the 4-string models, but still they're not rare. Nor are they expensive. It's easy to find a Foundation 5-string for under $200.
Your bass is probably a late-90's model. Without a photo it's impossible to say.
Yep, that's the one I have. I seem to remember a rather extended discussion about T-40 cases a couple of years ago that resulted in the "cases" section of my T40 infosheet.

am i the only one that HATES gold hardware? that TL5 would look so perfect with black or black chrome hardware.

I think it works on SOME basses and certain colors, but it is often a bit too "bling" for me, so I generally prefer black like on my Patriot.
I think with those basses it was a case of 'these things cost a lot so the fancier it looks the better the chances of it selling.'

"Rare" means uncommon or unusual. VFL Foundations are extremely common. There are 2 on GC online and 1 on ebay right now. I don't think a week has gone by in the last several years where a VFL Foundation hasn't been for sale. There are less of them out there compared to the Super Ferrite models, but they are not rare by any means.
One of my favorite things about the aesthetics of the TL-5's is the gold hardware. I think black hardware would ruin the look.

Yeah, when these basses were built around 20 years ago the gold hardware was it. These days, the chrome/silver and black hardware is the stuff. I've actually thought about buying "silver" hardware for my TL-Five. I think it would look really sweet like that.
