I find the D-tuner to be very handy. Songs that were originally done with drop D on a four string are easier to play than doing the B string thing. A gold one retails for $120 so I can understand him taking it off at your price, which is a real bargain. It is well balanced but a 4" padded strap is a must for me. I don't play mine live much but mainly use it at home for practice or the occasional gig where I can use a stool. I've been playing with some guys that tune a half step down to help aging vocal cords so my main basses stay tuned down.

My strap is padded leather and I'm pretty sure it's at least 3.5" if not 4". I guess I'll have to see if I'm going to keep it. I have a G&L L2000 Tribute which are typically heavy instruments, but mine weighs in at just over 9 lbs. A jump to 12+ might be too much.
