Seems like I read somewhere not to let the silk on the LaBella wrap around the tuner post but now I can't find where I read it.

Me neither. Flats on one of the Super Ferrite Foundations and one of the soapbar ones.No issues.

Okay I found it. It wasn't the silk it was the winding. "Make sure the wound part of the string clears the nut but don't let the wound part wrap around the tuner post"

I measure 35.5" from back of the Foundation bridge to past the nut. 36" to the TR hole.
According to the bassstringsonline page that means long scale will do and the La Bella low tension get listed in that size.
I'd follow their advice and give them a call to be 100% sure though. Here's the link, suitable flats get linked on the page too.

Yep. The large part of any string shouldn't wrap around the tuner post and this is more important with flats. They'll tend to unwind.

NBA: 1989 Foundation 4 Fretless (in Sunburst!)
Picked this beauty up today via Kijiji. A few minor dings in the black paint which are easily fixed and otherwise very nice. Serial number says 1989 but when I took the neck off it was stamped 1990. Lovely tobacco sunburst which you don't see all that much and some nice looking wood (that I take to be ash) under the finish. When I got it, it was really badly set up: neck out of whack and the pickups way low. Spent some quality time this evening cleaning it up and giving it a good first set-up with some GHS Precision Flats which I had on hand. [I expect it'll get some TI Jazz flats with time.] Plays and sounds great. Tone control doesn't work for some reason. I'm guessing a failed capacitor, but I intend to redo the electronics and fully shield the cavity with foil over the next weeks. I have an '87 in black with frets that I'll do in parallel. Such a sweet, sweet neck on these guys!

Just set up my '89 Foundation FL with GHS flats and some of the unwrapped E string is around the post. No issues so far.
Great score and beautiful instrument. Seems like you don't see a sunburst Foundation for sale for years and all of a sudden it's like they are falling out of the sky.
