I've been working on a T-40 project for a few months buying things piece by piece. I have everything but the wiring harness to complete this bass. I bought a T-40 fretless neck from a fellow T-basser and just installed it on the bass. I have Rotosound flats on there. I can't wait to get the electronics and get this baby up and running!!!
The body is refinished with a gloss finish. Opinions on a pickguard???? I'm thinking a classic tortoise guard. Whatcha think???

My Millennium Plus 5 finally arrived on Tuesday! Wow! What a beautiful bass! This picture doesn't do it justice:

I put an older set of Sadowsky flatwounds on my new Millennium Plus 5 and I'm not crazy about the B-string sound.
What strings do you use on your Millennium Plus 5?

I'm using Elixirs on both of mine. you'll need the extra long ones if you are going to string through body. One of mine has a tapered B string strung through bridge with the rest of the set strung through body.
I've also used D'Addario XLs on mine and they also sound great (you'll need the super long set).
To my ears the Millenium 5s need new sounding strings to get that good growl. Hope you are enjoying that 5string. Sounds different from the 4 string with the Jazz pickups I'l bet.
How's the clarity of the Elixir B-string?
I really like this fiver! The string spacing is a bit narrow, but I've owned narrow spacing fivers before - no problems. I've got to get it on a scale 'cause I know it's lighter than the J/J 4-string I sold to buy this one.
It does sound really different, but I pretty much stuck to the neck pickup anyway. The pickups together have a really full sound. I need to spend some time finding good settings for the MM pup. Either way I feel like it's a more versatile bass than the J/J one.
The Elixir B string sounds good IMO. I think the D'addarios sound better but I kill strings real fast so the elixirs are a good compromise for me.
IMO, the bridge pickup is where I get the good growl on the b string. I usually have the pickup blend towards the bridge pickup about 75%. Sometimes I turn it all the way towards the bridge pickup when I'm looking for maximum growl or a more modern sound. Looks like you are going for a different sound than what I am.
On my black standard 5 with the maple fretboard I leave the tone controls flat and it sounds great using mostly towards the bridge pickup.
My Tiger eye plus 5 with Pau Ferro board seems to have a darker more low/mid heavy tone. I've been using that one mostly at 75% towards bridge pickup also, rolling off some low mids and boosting some highs. It still doesn't cut through like my maple boarded standard 5 though.
I though I read somewhere here that someone who owned three Milleniums said that all three sounded like the pre amps were voiced differently. I guess that could be the reason mine don't sound the same. Or it could just be the difference between the Maple and Pau Ferro boards.

I have one with a pao ferro board. I've been using flatwounds for a more thumpy tone but I might switch back to rounds for a while.
I use DR Fatbeams or Lo Riders with mine.Fatbeams are my favorite,they have a great midrange.I like a pretty bright sound though with so if you want a darker sound they might not be right for you.The DR's both have a very good B string sound on my Millennium.

hiding: I know this is a Peavey thread. I just don't have a Peavey 5 yet. haha)I love the growl out of the 5th string with my Bartolinis. Haven't tried them with any other 5s/pups, because it my only 5-string.
I'll second that I just put a pair of DR Lowriders on my Cirrus 4 last night and they are the best strings I have ever used. I love them. Joe
I'm using some MTD stainless steels on my Cirrus6 right now, I really dig the taper core B. and the tension of this set feels nice to me. Aside from that though, DRs do kick butt.
