I had a Cirrus,the body was bubinga and the fingerboard was maple,it was really bright. Does the fingerboard make a difference on these,would a rosewood fingerboard make a difference? I want to get another used four with a rosewood fingerboard.

Yea,the maple neck is brighter sounding.The Pao Ferro and rosewood are warmer sounding.Hope this helps. Joe
Yes,the B string on the Fatbeams is about as clear as the Lo Riders.The Fatbeams B is .125 and I think the Lo Riders is .130 but they both seem to work about the same on the lows.
Do the strings have a balanced sound? What about the Lo Rider nickels? Are these long lasting strings?
Generally, I think it's hard to go wrong with DR's. The only ones I didn't care for were the Longnecks. Currently I'm using High Beams on my Cirrus 6 and love them. I like a flexible string and these fit the bill perfectly. They're pretty bright sounding but not too bright on my alder/redwood/pao ferro bass. If you go with nickle strings you might want to try the Peavey brand Cirrus strings. They're actually really nice and Musician's Friend sells them pretty cheap. Check out the strings forum lots of good info there. Anyhow nice bass Fourstring. I want one of those soooo bad!!!
For nickels, I kept coming back to the Cirrus strings. They are available locally for $14/5; $17/5-I couldn't escape the price/value equation 
. I haven't tried the DRs at all-but from all accounts both here and amongst fellow bassists, they are a very good string.

Anyone here familiar with the Peavey RJ IV. I recently aquired one here on TB from Fretlesswonder, and I can find almost no information about these interesting instruments, except the Peavey Users manual. And we all know how Helpful they are!
I believe the RJ stands for Randy Jackson, and that they were made in 90 - 91. Does anyone know anything about these beauties?
I got this for a student of mine, and I'd like to give him some "History" on the model.

Can I get in the Peavey club? I own a Milestone III in blue trans., a millennium bxp in tiger eye, a 5string millennium in sunburst, and a zodiac in black with a tort pickguard.
There's a video (VHS) with Randy Jackson, something about "The Groove", and there\s a picture of him holding that bass on the cover.
Ok I'm in. U.S.A. made Foundation "S" with active electronics. (on the left) Millennium 5 AC BXP (right) not US but still a nice bass.

Sorry Bustrdog, we don't mean to ognore you! Nice Foundation with the PJs...
I want to note that that RJ IV is very much like my Dyna-Bass Unity- in fact it's almost the same bass on the surface: Neck-thru, PJ p'ups, maybe the same onboard preamp? What are the body wings made of? Mine are Poplar, and with the Ebony fretboard it's an awesome sound. Very 'barky' through a nice 15.
Cool-looking bass.

Yeah, it's basically a Unity with a bunch of aftermarket options bolted on, and a celebrity endorsing it. I swaped the Schaeler strap locks with Duncans. Body is Select Maple, neck is Eastern Maple(non-Select?) and finger board is Macassar Ebony. The preamp is kinda quirky, with it's 8 toggles, but it Really lets you set the sound up the way you like it. Takes some Trial & error, but features a 6 dB pad, shifting highs from 2Khz to 1Khz, sweeping mids from 1kHz, to 500, 250, or 125 Hz. I have it set with Highs at 1kHz, and mids at 500 Hz, no pad. Not really Barky, more of a Growl. I haven't seen too many of these...
It's light (7.5 lbs.!), comfortable, sounds great and looks great.

I'll never sell it; It's too nice. Besides, it's way too undervalued on the used market.
Someone here said if you see one, buy it. Yeah, that's good advice.
So here's mine but note that it's shot with a flash so it looks more gold than brown.
Also, in person this bass looks different from every angle. Koa is amazing wood.
and one more just for fun.
