U.S. Peavey Club

So I was shopping for a new head, and liked the power / value of the Peavey Pro 2000. With the Dual Preamp (one channel tube the othe SS) you could run either / or / mix. Found a couple of sites listing it and ordered one.

Turns out there are none in stock anywhere, and the phone call from the dealer to peavey says it 60-90 days back ordered?

Has anybody heard about a major issue that may have required some re-engineering?

Got a newish to me but quite old to the world T-40, patent applied for so 78 79 or so? Autographed before I owned it (apparently was on display at a NY club for some time before it closed, they're selling off all their autographed display instruments) but I'm a fan of the PUSA, and it still plays like a dream. :bassist:

Have since cleaned 'er up and slapped some new strings on, lord knows how long it sat on a wall with those things on there.

I saw that on the bay. It's a '79. Congrats!!!

When I got my current used Millennium my mid pot was bad so I called Peavey.The lady at customer service was very helpful and just asked what the serial number was for my Millennium to be sure to get the right one.I paid about $55 direct from Peavey so it might be a good idea to call them.Good customer service.

You got a complete Millennium preamp or just the mid pot? Could I just take the preamp out and spray the mid pot with contact cleaner? Would that fix it?

Steve is at Peavey in Customer Service...He's in charge of Guitars, which covers Basses...It was $52 for just the preamp, and the rest covers the knobs, if you're upgrading from a Cirrus.

I saw that one on the Bay as well. Saw it listed twice actually. I was wondering if it ever sold. Congrats, man. ^_^

$52 is excellent! I've already got the knobs - I might eventually replace the preamp.

MadAnthony's right.I got my latest Millennium used and when I got it and plugged it in it made a bad noise and then I smelled something burning.I opened the control cavity and smoke came out.It was the balance pot,not the mid pot like I said before,that was bad.When I turned the knob it hung up towards the neck position.I did spray contact cleaner/lube in the pot and got it to turn easier but it wouldn't pan all the way towards the neck pickup.When I plugged it in the bass worked fine except for that pot so I used it that way for about a year before I called Peavey and found out that the preamp was so inexpensive,then I ordered one.

I've had two other Millenniums and had no trouble with either of them,cb56 has one and another TBer,Ebozz has the other one.I don't think this is a common problem but it is nice to know if one goes bad it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get a new preamp.Sorry about the bad info on the mid pot,my memory is getting worse the older I get.I love these basses.

Okay, a couple of things:

The Millennium pre will not drop into a Dyna-unity or otherwise, without first removing the tone controls from the board, cutting their legs and hardwiring them back to the board-I just pulled one out of the box and checked it with one of my Dynas. Second, I am not sure, but I don't think the Dyna pickups will handle the 18 volt pre-amp-I could be wrong on this-don't shoot me! You would also need to rout a larger or additional battery cavity to handle the second 9v. The Dyna used passive pickups with an active pre, the Cirrus and Millenium use active pickups. That's why you can still play a Dyna with a dead-or no-battery, while the VFL pickups on the Cirrus, Millennium, Axcelerator, Forum, G-Bass, etc-after a brief period of distortion caused by low voltage-go silent with dead batteries. Could a sweepable mid be designed for the Dyna? Anything is possible, if you know what you are doing. That's way above my level, I am afraid.

The second thing: "static-y" controls: clean then lube them and they will be good as new. Use Caig Deoxit 5 (accept no substitute-trust me on this!) to clean them-work them back and forth through their full range of travel...you will need to access the back of the pots to do this, which on the Cirrus/Millennium/G-bass involves taking off all or the knobs and the shaft nuts before removing the circuit board. Spray just a little-the Deoxit has a metered spray, so it's easy to do. Then hit them with a little bit of Caig MCL (now called Faderlube-again, accept no substitute) to replenish the lube in the pot. They will be noise free and as smooth as new.

I got really blessed when I got this bass. On a "physical condition" scale from 1 to 10 it's a 9.5! I want to get the electronics working like new as well, so I'm definitely going to remove the preamp and clean all of the pots this weekend. A new set of strings and this baby will literally be good as new!

Holy crap! :eek:

I just bought a new USA Millennium Plus Standard on the 'bay for $310 shipped.

You all have seen it I'm sure. It's a new old-stock that has been listed for a long time in the seller's store and he just this week went and put it up for an auction.

Now I've got tell my wife! $310 seems to be a good deal for the bass, but it's $310 more than I have!

Now I've got to go sell some stuff!

As to the bass, it looks sweet. I'm not wild about the white, but we'll see. Anyone know someone in the D.C. area who does good repaint work?

$310 shipped is a great price for that bass! Congrats! Tell her it originally sold for close to $1000.

Wow man... congratz! this REALLY is a good purchase.

I had an eye for this particular bass some time ago, IMO it was overpriced back then. I even sent a message to the guy about 2 months ago (I think) and asked if I can get it for $400 plus shipping. he said no! :) It is funny (in a good way) that you scored it for less!
