This one is black. Plain black...not black sparkle. I think this is the first G Bass I have seen that does not have a sparkle finish. It sounds good. The pots were dirty but cleaned up with a squirt of DeoxIT D5.

Totally understand...

"Usually" I play super light touch... there are times in CCM gigs that I crazy dig in... with the right setup, geometry and string tension... it's possible to get 1.5mm action with an arrow straight neck.

I've probably set up 800 (estimated) of the USA peaveys, the ones that needed relief commonly had self-inflicted wounds... most had some very counter-intuitive setups - best examples are the RJ-IV bridge design issue and the USA Millenium geometry issue.

The standalone parts are fine... the setup can be average easily.

To get these to be competitors with boutique instruments... some of it is purely alignment geometry

I say this as my Axcellerator 5 has relief--- for a megachurch gig, who cares how far the chunking 8th notes are off the neck -- I really don't care as I leave it on stage and who knows what happens to it when I'm away for 6 days.... for this setup.

Millenium "metallic" type sound?

I just noticed my millenium can have a metallic noise sound... when you touch the pickups

  • I'm IEM
  • Pro Sound Crew
  • Normally Boosted Mids Structure

The sound crew hasn't said anything... I hear it in my IEM (probably washes in the mains)

The bass doesn't have clues of having any issues.

I don't believe I've heard it from any of My Cirrus, GV or other VFLish basses

Has anyone experienced this?

Reason I ask is with a new sound director, they're starting to bump me quite loud in the mains... i'm guessing sooner or later, it will be a fix-it issue.

RE Axcellerator noise.

Does yours sound almost like touching an aluminum foil pan?

It's strange that the sound crew didn't say anything - I'm about 50% of what's going through the array and subs..

The sound director absolutely loves the BString ... from his side he notes that it's predictable and has sustain.

90% of this gig is B String... so I stay out of the way of everyone else.

I totally get it ... it's not a bar gig.

Pro Sound Crew + 2 synths + electric guitar + acoustic guitar + subharmonic bass drum + subs (and array) = narrow spectrum slot (B String)... many CCM songs are in C, D and G... often we'll play in with relative 5 (or relative 6) an Open B

Oh yea... we also license professional tracks

I'm guessing "huge" doesn't happen as they probably have gates, filters and compressors on me... I'm clueless of what they do to Front of House

Nope... hitting open B ... sometimes it's the VI.. sometimes a V... the music director many times voices it so I can hit and hold an open B and rattle the subs

Hopefully that clarifies it.... my apologies for speed typing.

Ok, that makes sense!

Ever think about tuning even lower? My Cirrus holds a low A well but there are few contexts that support notes that low. Sounds like you might be in a good one, though!

Tapping a metal pan is probably a good descriptor. I just took it as the active pickups being really sensitive.

I also get what you’re saying about the B. With all that other stuff going on, you’re about the only thing covering that end of the sonic spectrum. I started tuning DGCF so I had the option of the open D. It comes around pretty often in the worship music we play at church. I feel like going down a little lower helps fill the space.

After cleaning the bass up I installed new strings and the neck was slightly back bowed. I loosened the truss rod nut just enough to give the bass a very slight bit of relief and it plays cleanly with no buzzing. I usually have to put a little more relief in a neck to get it to play like this. I did not adjust the tilt as it seemed okay. I did, of course, adjust the bridge for intonation and height. The bass plays very well now and really does look almost new.

I own two Peavey single PU basses and they sound similar. The other is a Forum 4 which has the 2 band preamp from the Axcelerator while the G bass has the three band Cirrus preamp. The Axcelerator preamp is darker sounding as though the mids are cut some.

I would buy it (for that price) in a minute, but I already have a mahogany Patriot.
