U.S. Peavey Club

OK, so here we have the same shot of two different T-40 headstocks, from the player's perspective. Notice anything??? The one without the red silk has tapered/staggered tuners. I've never noticed that before. I asked our resident Peavey guy about it. For those keeping score at home, the staggered tuners are on the white one, which dates to '81. It's got blade pickups, metal nut, and the smaller switches. The burst one dates to '83, and also has blades, but she's got the larger switches and a plastic nut.

I lied. It's an optical illusion. Got the best of me. I didn't string either of those basses, just so you know. I ordered some four string sets, and both of these will be gone thru. They both need a DNA cleanse. I am happy to report that they both take set-ups really well. I'm having an issue with one of the saddle height screws on the burst one. That bass has more corrosion and funk on is hardware than the white one does.

The saddles are die cast aluminum. The threaded holes don't get any chrome plating and when exposed to moisture will corrode and swell, locking the steel screws in. Sweaty dust in the Allen sockes also tends to rust them. Try some penetrating fluid for 24 hrs. If it doesn't come loose heat the bottom of the screw with a dry soldering iron. I recommend taking the bridges apart and lubing the screws with a small bit of Vaseline. A little smear on the tip of a finger and roll them between finger and thumb then in a paper towel to remove excess. It'll be a pain but better some dust sticking than rust.

Prolonged exposure to humidity. All bridge screws were seized. Had to cut the intonation screws to salvage the bridge plate but ended up tossing it and the knobs.

Yikes! I usually try to steer clear of basses with that much evidence of moisture exposure.

Got it for next to nothing locally for the PUs and they did work. Had hopes for the neck but that didn't happen. Bad twist. Everything but the body, string tree, TR cover/nut, PUs and a few screws is in the landfill.

Yikes! I usually try to steer clear of basses with that much evidence of moisture exposure.

You'd not want to buy my primary gig basses (Conklin 7 or Ergo 5).. they live in my car 24x7x365... goes from -30 to +130... the hardware is turning green.

It's been dropped... chunks reglued... switches added... epoxy fills on the permieter.

Does anybody here have a spare Peavey neckplate?
I am putting together a T-20 and don't have a neckplate.
Don't care if it is chrome or black.
Or if anybody knows of a there is an available neckplate to buy that has the same screw hole dimensions as Peavey, I don't use the micro-tilt so don't need that cutout on the plate.
Would love to get the right screws with it, but can probably get the right screws from Austin Nut and Bolt.
 
I guess this still counts as a Peavey. I am still calling it a Peavey. USA Grind I found at a pawn shop, electronics didn't work, in the process of getting them to work I chunked out a piece of the bass. I decided to build a new top for it. Turns out the bass is a prototype and a 34" scale.

Great save, man! It looks fantastic.
