30 years ago today (01-08-88) my Dad bought me my first Peavey bass a T-40 for my 21st birthday, sadly it was stolen a few years later but I think the seed was planted. Here I am today (01-08-18) 51 years old (not any wiser) but sat here with my '86 Foundation bass. Thanks Dad

Here you go 9mmMike next to my now redundant '92 Foundation both are fitted with SF pickups but for me, the '86 just feels so much better to me plus I prefer the classic 80's Peavey look. They should have never changed the shape IMHO .

Nice. My Foundation is an '84 with a maple neck. Not nearly as nice as yours though.

The rest of the case restoration story....

I decided to go with the 1/2" thick yoga matt and my wife picked one up at TJMax for 13 bucks and change.
First had to strip the gunk out of the case and surprisingly this was easier than I thought. I used mineral spirits and a plastic paint scraper. The scraper took most of the adhesive off. Had to soften some of it in a few spots with the spirits and then a bit of elbow grease to remove the residue.

Next was probably the most time consuming part of the job....cutting a pattern of the body cavity with a light weight poster board.

Trace the pattern on the matt and cut. Fit first time. Here's the insert cut and ready for spray adhesive. I got this idea from a previous installation of a headliner in an old truck. Gives a thin layer and sticks and dries extremely quickly.

Sorry for the picture orientations. Next was to cut the strip in the top. Drywall T-square and a nice razor blade knife made this quick and easy.

The case with the body matt and first strip glued in.....

After fitting with the Patriot I added a second strip in the top of the case and a small piece to cradle the neck. this kept the tuning keys from touching the bottom of the headstock cavity. Perfect fit and here is the final product...

And with the Patriot in place.....

I'm very satisfied with the final product. The only thing I may add is a couple of strips of thinner foam on either side of back strap button since I do store the case with the headstock upright most of the time. I played with the idea of a yoga matt foam strip all the way around the perimeter of the body but there really is not clearance for it.

I did it on my 84 Foundation. It had a faulty volume pot on the bridge pickup, so I used it as an opportunity to get a push/pull pot to fix the volume pot and add the series/parallel option without any drilling. Got the idea from playing a couple basses, a 2004ish Jazz Bass with the S-1 series/parallel switch on it and also from my 1983 G&L El Toro that also has a factory series/parallel switch on it. The El Toro has pickups that are pretty different from a J, they are like a cross between a soapbar and a MFD from a L1000/2000. They are humbuckers that are internally wired in series. This bass gets really powerful and thick in series.
Gotta say, if you like a Jazz in series, you will like the Foundation in series. It sounds great, but it's just not my cup of tea. I use my split-coil P (and P type) basses in parallel more often than my Foundation and El Toro in series! I'm just wired to hear the clarity of a single coil, which the Super Ferrites have in spades.

Sorry for the late answer JEDI the few times I've used it, it sounded good with the SF pickups. But hand on heart I prefer it stock, those SF pickups are a great pickup on their own merit. Has anyone put a set of SF pickups in a Fender Jazz?

That looks nice. A yoga mat!....great idea. I have a couple bomb cases that need relining. I made a template years ago but put the project aside for lack of a good lining material. Looks like you've solved it. Any idea if the yoga mat material might affect the finish?
