The Millennium preamp is a drop in replacement for the Cirrus and has a stacked mid control that includes mid frequency control. The Cirrus does not have the sweepable mid control, however, the Millennium preamp was usually installed in Custom ordered Cirrus basses.

Folks used to buy the Millennium preamp from Peavey to install in their Cirrus basses but the stock at Peavey has been depleted.

If you like a "modern" sound (think GKish) .. you'd probably be a fan of the Millenium

Every pro trained sound guy I've worked with prefers them... ... I have done side by side with idetentical looking basses... one cirrus/one millenium


Kind of like a telecaster, the Millenium will expose sloppy technique etc... it's a bit more articulate

Interesting. I was unaware of any fundamental differences between the preamps. A Millennium 5 passed through my collection and I did notice that it sounded brighter than my Cirrus basses but it had a maple fingerboard and I attributed the difference in tone to the fingerboard.

I have a Millennium 4 with J/J pu's on the way to me. I should have it Thursday. I typically do not get thrilled with J/MM pu's...have had Lakland and Roscoe with those pu's. I am curious to see how the J/J sounds.

I greatly enjoy sharing experiences and insights about Peavey basses here but my collection has now increased to 7 counting the Millennium that is on the way. My favorites are my Cirrus basses and I play them frequently, however, if I have gig where I worry about the possibility of damage I just take my Foundation 5 which already has some dings in it. I paid $199 for that Foundation and it is a killer bass that came to me needing EVERYTHING adjusted. Whoever had it was probably glad to see it go because it was terrible to play. Now it is a dream to play and looks great on stage.

There is a noticeable difference...

I'll note that it's not "right" for everyone... If someone liked passive or pbass type instruments... probably not going to want the highs and mids that a Millenium preamp provides

I typically cut the highs and mids on my Cirrus basses to give me the fat tone I like so it sounds like the Millennium pre is not my cup of tea. I am really hoping I like the sound of the one I have coming. It is a beauty.

If you prefer the Cirrus Pre... I'll have a few coming off shortly --

I play every weekend direct to a PA with a line array and flown subs... the room responds much better with upper mids than low lows...
