Material Choice -- overall, it seems as if things were descaled to a budget management point... notice how they start out as in "way over built" then materials and hardware reduce in scope and scale

Preamp - everything on these were options.... many times the vendors would not tell you they could special order... there was a catalog that speced out every little nuance.... most folks just bought stuff off the shelf... many times the vendors would try to find things that cost the least.

Dirt - the rage at this period (golden USA period) was satin or bare finished necks... both attract dirt.... the pau freboards were new at the time (in the us) we didn't know what to do with them etc.

I tend to like the glossy all maple Peavey necks that came on the cheaper basses (Fury, Patriot, Foundation) and 1987 seems to be the peak year.
I do love the Pau Ferro fretboard that they put on the G basses, nice piece of wood.

Not 100% certain but my gut feeling is the Cirrus Custom recycled surplus parts from the discontinued Millenniums.

I was thinking more about the quilt tops and colours from 2008, Millennium preamps were fitted to them,same as they were fitted to the bolt on Cirrus models.

Several things about USA Peavey basses puzzle me. The Cirrus basses were the top of the line...but only the Custom shop Cirrus basses got the Millennium preamp and Hipshot hardware. The production Cirrus basses were built with tuners similar to Gotoh, ABM bridges and a preamp lacking the sweepable mids. The Millennium got the pre with the sweepable mids but the maple fingerboards got no hard finish (as used on the very pedestrian Fury) so the maple fingerboards on Millennium basses tend to get stained if the player is not careful to keep his hands clean.

I don’t get it. However, I have to say that my production Cirrus basses are wonderful just as they are. I absolutely would not change anything but the strings. My Millennium 5 with a stained maple fingerboard just kills. Yeah, I would prefer the fingerboard to be clean but this is an amazing bass. I owned several USA Lakland 5’s and they didn’t come close to the tone of my Millennium.

There are 7 USA Peavey basses in my collection and number 8 is on the way. Sick. I am sick...and happy. I am also single.

The only way, imo, that the Cirrus could've been made better, would've been by having relocated the truss cavity to the heel. Headstock truss cavities are a royal pain.

While it's a great idea, it does look lousy on a neck through design.

TR covers at the heel ain't easy to pull off with style.

I have a second generation 2 TL5 on the way to me. They described it as dark blue but it is so dark it looks black in the photos. It is in excellent condition in the original case.

My collection of USA Peavey basses is getting large. I have 3 Cirrus, 2 Millennium, 1 Forum P/J and 2 TL5’s. I sold a friend my recently acquired Fury and he is very happy with it.

My daughter is a psychologist. Perhaps I should call her.

Presently there are two upright basses, one TL5 and an Eastman jazz guitar in my living room. My rehearsal room presently has 3 basses in it and the other “bedroom” has a bunch of basses in it. I am not quite as far down that road as you are.

No cover...those little divets don't bother me at all. Adjustment in a matter of seconds, not minutes.

There is a Wiki out there... In the peavey USA world, generation is the attribute. T20s were popular around 1982

Headstock doesn't look dorked... how straight is the neck?
