Speaking of basses we are looking for...I need a Patriot.
It doesn't even need a pickup.
I want to pull the SF pickup and put in a Thunderbird pickup.
Routing job will be painless ..and in the end a bass with that great Thunderbird sound without the ergonomic shenanigans that is a Thunderbird.
Light, compact and well balanced, with a neck that plays better than a Thunderbird, and most Fenders for that matter!

Speaking of Patriots, had mine out for the first time in a while last Saturday. I needed 3 different tunings in the same set (thank you guitar player) so I used it for one song, Jet Airliner, and it was thunderous. I also played the slant ferrite Fury in the same set and was pleasantly surprised that the Patriot had just as much balls and I did not have to boost my signal at all. Need to use it more often! I have Chromes on them both which gives a great deep smooth Classic Rock tone I love.

I recently bought a Fury for cheap. It was in great condition and only needed a little TLC and new strings to put it at its best. I put a set of TI flats on it and it sounded terrific. One of my guitar playing friends is taking up bass so I sold it to him for what I had in it which was $250. He played his first gig with it last night and sent me this note this morning:

yeah, last night was the first time I got to plug it into an amp. Fury made my Fender Rumble 500 really come alive. Pups are STRONG. Tone was great. Feels and plays great..not to mention I LOVE the RED and subtly aged pick guard. Perfect. I'll never need another bass. Thanks again, Chuck !

Which Fury model? That is very cool to hear as i have always wanted to try a set of TI flats.....have rounds on my slant Fury and Fender 9050 flats on my 89 Fury...i think the rounds need to be pulled on the early slant Fury but i may pull the broken in set of 9050s on the 89 and move them to the slant Fury...any thoughts?

Well the TL5 arrived yesterday and is going back today. It has a very strange problem in the electronics. When the mids are boosted about 90% there is a strange feedback that occurs. Changing the mid frequency changes the frequency of the feedback. This and the fact that the bass weighs 10 pounds, 10 ounces was enough to convince me to send it back.

The truth is the Gen 2 TL5 that I already have is a much better bass for me. The electronics work perfectly in that one and it weighs about 10 pounds. I think I need to decide to be content with 7 USA made Peavey basses. That is quite a lot unless you live in Scotland.

I own two G. Gould basses with EMG electronics and they sound wonderful. My Gen 2 TL5 with original electronics sounds great. I would not change anything about it except I did put knobs from a Millennium on it. The gold knobs were looking pretty bad. In general, I dislike gold hardware for that reason. If you put a coat of paste car wax on the gold when it is new it lasts a long time. Most folks do not wax new instruments and the gold looks shabby in a short period of time.

Good idea! I would have never thought to put auto wax on gold knobs!

I need to find the chrome polish I used to use when I rode motorcycles, and use it on my chrome bridges and tuners. That stuff made oxidized chrome look new. Was it called something like “Mother’s” ??? I can’t remember.

@BTYogurt Could you post a pic of you passive Forum’s wiring.

I’m finally getting around to reinstalling the original pickup in my Forum. I think it should be pretty straight forward, but there are thee wires; black, red, and bare. Normally I would guess red is hot and black is ground. But, wouldn’t the bare wire be ground? I’m just going to wire it with Volume and Tone. Anyone have thoughts on how the three wires would be different than a standard P bass wiring?

Found this 80's Foundation in a pawn shop. It is in rough shape and the neck is bowed. The manager would not budge on price. I will go back with a tool to see if I can adjust the truss rod. I love the thin fast neck so if I can adjust it I may pursue it further. It has the old school ferrite pickups. They put it back on the rack and zip tied it down before I could get good pics. :thumbsup:
