Tell me about the TL-5. Is it a super hi-fi bass or is it capable of grindy tones as well? That was the problem with my Millennium....it was just too sterile for me and I couldn't find the tone I was looking for. Are the pickups VFL's (active) or passive with active/passive pre? I have one locally I'm eyeing for $399 and could probably talk down a bit from there. I play predominantly classic rock and heavy rock. Would it sound any different from my Dyna with super ferrites?

I assume you are looking at a generation 2 TL5 with VFL PUs and the preamp with stacked knobs for the tone controls. I own one of these basses and the tone can be pretty much what you want it to be. It is capable of great slap tone and can get edgy/grind if that is what you want.
If in good shape it is a bargain at $399.
Thanks. That photo was taken while moving into the new place. After the the first 12 trips upstairs I thought it would be good time to get a shot. Planned on doing the same for the other half,another 15 trips later I was sick of lugging Peaveys
Great bass and does about all you'd need. Pickups are not VFLs but are active flat top humbuckers. Preamp has no bypass switch and is on all the time. Just recently sold this one. Looked so much like a Sarzo I added the black dots.
Asking price on the B-Quad is $1500 CDN or ~$1130 US. Four string. Colour is unclear—the fellow I've been speaking with is colourblind!
He says it "might be brown". It's essentially new, hanging on a wall since purchase new, played maybe 8 times by him in a studio setting. I don't think it's ever left his house. He's a guitar player by trade so that's perhaps believable.

That is quite interesting to me. My TL-5 came equipped with the ABM bridge as used on the Cirrus and the PUs are rounded on top so I think they are VFL's.
You can make out the top radius of the PUs in this photo. I am guessing my TL5 is one of the last ones made as the factory was in transition to the Cirrus. At least that is a reasonable explanation for the PUs and bridge as used on the Cirrus.
This bass will go from very aggressive sounding to fat and round with the excellent electronics. I love this bass.

B-Quads are AMAZING. I own one that I've bought from Derrick Cook recently from the Peavey Building #2. I have the complete bass minus the preamp. It's the exact color I was looking for, too. I have owned a few over the years and they are pretty much the only bass you'd ever need.They do everything.
The flat top humbuckers were short lived since the VFLs were in development. Your TL-5 had to be one of the last ones before the Cirrus.

Sadly I've never saw those "eerie dess" finishes in the flesh,both my TL-5's and TL-6 are the same transparent dark grey/almost black colour.

I bought a TL 5 in that transparent black finish from Music Go Round but it had preamp problems so I returned it.
Yeah, I had a TL-6 in that finish. I sold it rather quickly cause it didn't "fit me" like the Cirrus 6ers that I used to have.
This is amazing.
I sold my T20 to buy a Foundation because of the neck but can't get the same tones I liked in my T20.
