Super pimp style?

Haha. I used solid shaft pots: a CTS 500K linear volume, Bournes 250K M/N ungrounded blend and CTS 500K audio push/pull pot with a Switchcraft jack and cloth push-back wire. Figured since I'm only really gonna wire it up once, may as well do a nice job. Plus, it was my first foray with the 25mm CTS push/pull pots. I really like them!

As a Millennium, Fender Jazz, and G&L anything fan -- The Peavey GV/Cirrus has the best modern electronics bar none. The tone nails modern Metal, Gospel, and Jazz with authority. Mine is going with me to the studio this weekend.

The only PITA aspects are that the preamp isn't user-friendly (everything attached to one big circuit board that blocks access to everything), that and as well as that preamp and the pickups aren't made anymore. You'd be s**t-outta-luck to find replacements...true shame. Never understood the circuit board calamity. Statuses have done that, too (might still).

I know I might come off as crass and ignorant in posting this but -- Peavey was a damn fool for not continuing this process (wood neck and carbon fiber). I know Parker guitars did some carbon fiber sleeves for their guitars with a wood fretboard. I've played graphite necks (Modulus and Status), and to my ears I find them to be a bit too sterile for my taste. I've played a Modulus Genisis and loved the concept of carbon fiber centered necks.

However, the GV neck just has a resonance that balances very well with Peavey electronics. Peavey might've seen this process as a "just as good" cost-saving but, I really think they could have run the process and made it their own. Carbon wrapping has only gotten better since the G/GV inception.

I'm hoping to one day build a custom quilted white Millennium body around a G bass neck with all black hardware.

Edit: My only gripe with the GV was the cheap chrome Gotoh style tuners. The gold ones work for the Cirrus but, I prefer the satin black hipshot tuners on Cirrus bolts, Millenniums, and GV's.

Parker actually did most of their necks with a glass fretboard (yes, glass) with stainless frets, over the carbon/mahogany necks.

I had a Modulus Q5 with a full EMG setup...DCs with the BQC preamp. I had no problem getting tones from hi-fi to Motown. I honestly think people don't experiment enough with eq, either on the bass and/or amp/pedals. I also briefly owned a Status...huge disappointment because I hated the tones, as well as the chunky neck. THAT, I could not get a non-brittle/thin tone from, so away it went, but my Modulus was versatile.

Regarding the G-V's tuners, yeah, they're crap, as numerous ones I've had eventually snapped their bushings in a short time. I would just replace them with Hipshot Ultralites.

Faster and cheaper production. They can have the boards assembled, tested, and ready for installation. The assembler would then only have to solder in 11 wires for a Cirrus.

Regarding the G-V's tuners, yeah, they're crap, as numerous ones I've had eventually snapped their bushings in a short time. I would just replace them with Hipshot Ultralites.

My GV came to me with Gotoh marked tuners and they are fine. Perhaps they have already been changed. I know the OEM Cirrus tuners look like Gotoh but are not marked with the Gotoh name.

I have 10 gold US Hipshot Ultralites if anyone needs some. They are slightly used but in good shape.

The only bass I own that has Hipshot tuners is my Roscoe Century fretless 6. My Gould and Modulus 6's both have Gotoh Res O Lites. They all seem to work just fine.

The GV is going to my church gig in the morning. I can't wait to hear it through the Aguilar rig I have at church.

Howdy Peavey people...my Peavey PXD VoidIV has arrived. I posted a NBD earlier but I figured I post a pic here also.
It's not a USA build but...this is where the Peavey knowledge is. This thing is a beast for sure. I'm psyched to spend some time with it.
So does anyone know where to get a case for this freak?

I've owned a lot of Peavey basses. Cirrus, Millennium, Forum p/j, Forum AX 5, Axcelerator 4 and 6, Foundation, TL5's, single PU Forum, a Fury and a G bass. All those have come into my collection and many left but one model I had never had in my hands was a GV.

I made a deal and that has been rectified. This one is in great shape and set up nicely and plays and sounds great. It weighs 9 pounds, 2 ounces. I will play it in church Sunday.

Be prepared for a long wait. The only one I know of for sale now is on Reverb and it has been heavily modified with electronics and hardware changes. Hold out for one that is original.

Yup, they seem like unicorns. I'm also not sure I'd want a black sparkle one either, which is what I see most of the time.

The forum I bought for my friend arrived today. It is in very nice shape. A bit of polish and it will look great. The neck had a lot of forward bow when it arrived so I was concerned that the neck might be a problem but the truss rod nut was not really engaged. It turned easily and the neck came right where it needed to be. I also lowered the bridge saddles and set the intonation.

It plays and sounds great. I just sent my friend a text and he is coming in about an hour to get the bass. LOL Christmas comes early in Texas!

What a shame. Electronics have been messed with too....toggle switch added. I wonder if the preamp is original or has been changed.

I feel blessed to have my all original near pristine GV.

I'm thinking of installing one on my GLennium (g neck + millenium body)

Anyone here do it? The use is that on my church bass, I put a kill switch (I'm on wireless, so no ground hum)
