There are two first generation shaped Foundations on the GC website, and they both look to be in great shape.
The black one has a black headstock, trapezoidal bridge, rosewood fretboard, clover tuners, triangle string tree, and speed knobs...comes with the case for $329.
The candy red one has a natural headstock, trapezoidal bridge, rosewood fretboard, Titan tuners, triangle string tree and dome knobs...for $349.
They have not sold for 4-5 days since being listed because they are priced at $329 and $349.
If they were USA made Jazz basses of the same age they would have sold in five seconds at two or three or four times the price.

I'd have gone for that black one if it was any color but black. Despite me owning a few of them, i just find them so boring. I know tons of players love the slick look though.
I like the look of that black bass because they painted the headstock black and installed a rosewood fretboard.
My EBMM USA SUB bass has a black body, single ply black pickguard, black painted neck back, black headstock and rosewood fretboard...looks like a stealth fighter!
All black with chrome hardware: love it!
That black Foundy on GC's site is killer. For about $375 shipped with a case, it's a steal. Couldn't touch a used MIM J bass for that.

I'm not sure. Never saw the bass, just heard about it. If it were me, I'd trim the heel so I could put another Peavey neck on the body at some point. I don't care about a MIM Fender neck, but do want to preserve a US Peavey neck pocket.
Every black '80s Peavey I've seen or owned has been riddled with dings. I have my theory that they're all beat up due to the fact that they were probably all used for metal. Even when I was playing metal and ruining my neck w/ headbanging (UGH!!) I still valued my basses and tried to keep them in nice shape. Too bad many did not.
Those seem nice, wonder why they are calling the black one a Peavey 2000's? It's funny there was one on eBay called a "Peavey Foundations" It was a Foundation S.
The value issue is curious and pops up here from time to time. I have gotten a couple peavey basses for $100 and even a couple free ones! That to me has nothing to do with the value and more to do with the "right place at the right time" and people who just want to see the "guitar" gone. If the USA fenders sell in seconds for 3-4 time more, say $900-$1300 than doesn't that sort of make the $329 price a better value? A well built USA bass guitar for under $400...? Great price and value me thinks. I have recently found myself looking for the really clean ones for better value I suppose, but the fenders can be all beat up paint gone right down to the wood with cigarette burns and all and still be thousands of dollars...and the mint ones tens of thousands!

^^ I agree. I'd much rather a USA Peavey then a US Fender especially at a 4x price differential.

This was my 1998 FNA5 stolen July 2018. For a long time my main bass stable was 2 FNA5s and an FNA, 98 US jazz, 00 US P and a 1998 Geddy lee which was stolen as well, recovered, the day we went down to get it The cop was out sick, then circumstances came up so going down there wasn't easy, and then it got shoved on the back burner and when I finally got down there they told me it was auctioned and I have to file a claim, this was a month ago, still have to do that . the P was also stolen but not recovered. Same incident also took my 87 foundation mahogany.
Back to the Warwick, the 98 was my best one, it had the all wenge neck with a slimmer profile, smoother feel and smaller frets than my other 2 which are both 00 with the fatter ovangkol neck with wenge fretboard and bigger frets. The workmanship on the 98 was better as some of the glue seams are visible and/or feelable on the 00 fna5. They also went to nice wide strap buttons instead of tbe internal Dunlop strap locks like on the 98 and most older ones.
I do feel it was my best one, still have the other 2 as they were in the pawn shops along with my 98 jazz bass, 91 fury, vfl foundation, classic pro Tbird, rumble 200c and 3 guitars (I lost at least 6 guitars and 5 basses , but my 92 fury was so beat up it wasn't taken when my car was broken into in salvage yard, or multiple storage break ins)
I had an Ibanez SR500 Korea with the wenge and purple heart neck for a while as a poor man's Warwick but that preamp sucked and I ended up trading it for a goth thunderbird just before my first gig with a system of a down tribute. I used the vfl foundy as a backup a few times for that band but never played it live other than soundcheck.

Not much on their site ATM, 2nd gen Dynabass 5'er for $300 is about the best deal.
The dual stripe Patriot at $290 is pricey IMO.

Also I wonder if eBay in Scotland looks different than eBay USA? I see 6 results for Peavey Fury on eBay right now. $279 BIN for a Korean one is the lowest price.

These people need to stop confusing USA for premium. These were still only a hair more than a squier, much less than a Mexican fender cost. In the early 90s a new fury was $199, $250 tops and a MIM was in the $300-350 range. And the QC was spotty, there were definitely bad days at the peavey factory and I have had to correct issues (especially when they have the neck bolts actually thread into the body rather than pass through and you have to drill it out to get the neck straight so the strings have CLOSE to the same distance to the edge for the E and G. Even the bridge on that one needs to be moved a few MM but I am leaving it as is. And tbis is the one I paid the most for and is in the best condition. Iove these things but as the best damn cheap basses you can buy. Now my 87 foundation was definitely a high quality bass, but it wasn't long after that that corners became cut more and more and some not so great ones slipped out.
And starting this quest about 5 years ago even then it was a struggle to find one under $200 you might remember me bitching about it but I did manage to get deals on some beaters
$40 foundation VFL w beater case
$72 92 fury in heavy relic condition (pawn shop that couldn't get $99 bid on eBay 2x in a row so I called them and negotiated and that was the best I could do. Turned out to have some SEriOUS mojo, I can see why it got played so hard. Neck looks like it had been toured since the 70s.
$140 1991 fury, last of the gen2 pinstripe/5 wire/titans. Was $100 with skb case someone beat me to it and later relisted it and I could only get him down to $140 and he kept the case. This one had the neck crooked and I had to drill out the holes.
And the ultimate score $80 for the 1987 foundation mahagony with tone pot removed and logos sanded off the neck, clover lightweight tuners. The one that got stolen.
And recently $90 for 1989 black beater foundation, one pot in bad shape, tone replaced with mini pot, and possibky hosed truss rod (no tool to test) converted to fretless and some sky jump, with a beater case. In the condition it wasn't such a steal but compared to $200-350 in good shape I guess for the times it is a good deal. I swapped the later one piece+rosewood neck from the vfl foundation and it made a magical bass and a serviceable but high action fretless out of the beater vfl body.
4 is a nice number for me, but since one is a fretless with issues, in am always hoping for another chance at a SF foundation on the cheap. A 92 would be sweet because i kove the neck on my 92 fury. But I like the pre 90s body and hardware better.
So maybe it will become 5 or 6. I could use another fury since I got used to having a p bass and 2 furies and my P bass got stolen and no way can I afford a USA fender or even a mex right now

If I recall, I think most of the peavey basses in Scotland live in your house?
I should check eBay more often .
Even though I don't usually bite much over a hundred and there are many k don't want because key parts were changed, or they are the very end of the American "made" ones (more like assembled)
