Quit fretting over price and buy what you want! There’s a bunch of Peavey addicts that seem to only want the extremely low priced ones... knowing that they’re better than basses 3 times the price.
Don’t be one of those people! Accept they are worth more than they’ve sold for in the past and buy one or six!!
I resemble that remark.
I agree with you on the older ones.
But mid 90s onward... Even then like i said there are many out there with issues I have never seen in a fender, although I have heard stories... And my 91 fury had issues that needed to be corrected, and the braintrust here knew about them because they are common issues.
I remember in my youth talking to the guitar salesman who ended up being my college sound engineering teacher later (and this discussion probably took place in college) where I said "but peavey is made in the USA at least", and he came back with "by guys in Mississippi with their eyes too close together" yeah it was a So Cal snobby thing to say and the guy was always a bit of a pompous douche (but talented enough to back it). We were not talking about instruments but electronics that peavey made, as we all hated peavey crate and carvin stuff. But I always respected carvin guitars and basses. And have WAY more love for peavey basses now than I did then (sold the fury back then, still had the American made squier mentality about them).
The comment he made about Mississippi reminded me of that Sony commercial from the movie "crazy people" , showing the American white guys fumbling with soldering irons in a factory because they were too tall and their eyes were too far from the work bench, then showed the Japanese technicians at Sony in white lab coats doing precision work. "Sony, because Caucasians are just too tall" classic LOL
Not that it is true, but it might even be where my teacher (who I had known since I was a teenager riding my bike to the music store, and he sold me a lot of peavey over the early years) got the idea to make such a comment.
I am aware of my past and current snobbery. I am broke and will be for a while so it isn't just peavey or even just music or audio stuff, any thing that used to be a low price all the time but has shot up and I can't afford them anymore bothers me in the same way, so my motivation is genuine. And amplified now because of the major thefts I have experienced recently with no compensation.
But I still stand by the fact that all fenders I have owned are not "worse than peavey" as many here like to say, but the cost difference is a thing sure, peavey was a great value.
And I still want more peavey, and my old experience with peavey was 90s stuff, I never saw the older stuff which is higher quality, back in my mid teens in the 90s when music instruments were on my radar
My first amp after returning squier 15 because the back rattled and it bugged me, was a rage 108. My first big amp was a fender m80, but when I got an inheritance at age 18 my first serious guitar rig was peavey classic series 120/120 tube power amp and rockmaster preamp (Marshall cab) , and a KB100 for my Roland GR1 and to double as a bass amp, and I also got a minx 110 bass amp and my first ever effect pedal was a peavey DDL3.
When I switched to bass I used peavey 1516 and 1810 cabs with my swr bass350 before upgrading to SWR cabs.
And a few years ago I bought a valveking 50mkII which was also stolen when I lost almost everything leaving me with zero guitar amps.
So I have been seriously considering silver stripe bandit as a replacement , or another valveking 50 but the original since they are cheaper.
And since most of my guitars were stolen I bought a raptor custom with a little audition amp, and want a reactor to replace my Tele. But ran into the same issue. They aren't $100 anymore. And that bugs me because they have those godawful narrow shaft tuners that are on low end squiers, same with predators.
So I was not slamming peavey, just complaining about price increases.
Let me be bitter in peace.
But we really shouldn't feed the birds because when they see overpriced peaveys sell, it raises prices in general, and has been going on for a while now. Lets not SUPPORT making it even worse. That fury is several hundred dollars overpriced. 4 years ago I would have complained just as loud had it been $350.
