Uber 410 = Uber Bad *ss

I've done a lot of comparo's with the Epi. I've been public with positive comments on the UL410.

The Epi is a little "sweeter" on the highs. The GB is a little more aggressive. i.e. ...I can get it to "snarl" a little bit more.

Since you're an MTD guy: If you want to sound like Andrew Gouche, the Epi is your cab. If you want to sound like Marcus, I'd go with the GB.

"Finger funk" tones- they're both so close.

Yup, I remember you talking about the UL410. Interesting assesment with the Gouche or Marcus tone. How about a cab that does something somewhere in the middle? :D

If the GB guys are reading this, I just have one complaint: EDGE LIFT HANDLES. These things are in the most useless location, especially for one man trying to lift his cab in and out of a taller vehicle. Traditional side mounted handles allow the cab to be lifted further off the ground and make it easier to transport. I'm going to keep complaining about these until you change them.........

;)

:mad::spit::eyebrow:;)

You aren't the first person that has complained. The issue is is that we get more positive comments.....way more.

One thing- If you try to lift it up by both handles, you are correct...it won't lift high enough to get it into a trunk. But, if you grab one handle and then put your other hand under the bottom corner....she works. And, you get to bend and lift with your knees.

With traditional handles on the side, you can't bend your knees because they'll hit the back of the cab.....which forces you to lift with your back.

It's tough to describe it. Maybe you understand what I'm trying to say.

Roger,

Thanks for convincing me to try it. It will get run tonight and maybe videod....who knows. It is an amazing sounding cabinet and I really can't wait to drive it tonight. The touring with Reggie Wayne Morris kicks up in a week or so and I am thinking this may be the road cabinet for this tour. I'll figure that out this week.

I thought you might dig it for three reasons-
* you and I are both fans of 12"s
* we are both "sensitive" to too much high mids
* we both use Smith's quite a bit.

We addressed the high mids that are often prevalent with neo drivers by designing our own speaker and by the porting. I'm thrilled you're finding you don't have to cut your high mids out with this cab. Also speaker placement on the baffle was critical.

Weight- well, it isn't as light as our 2x12 for sure but compared to "classic" 4x10's:
Our XB2 weighs 90 pounds and the Uber is around 70. Definetly noticed when you try moving both of them.

Gouche- My main bass for the past year is a 635. When I want that tone, it's fun to plug into the Epi cab.

Truth be known- In my studio right now, I run a stereo rig. (I do all this looping, solo bass, over playing nonsense) I'm too lazy to move cabs around so one side of my signal goes through an Uber, the other side goes through a UL (series one). Jeez, don't tell Jeff Genzler. ;)

I just got my second Uber cab yesterday so I can fix this before he comes over again. :D

I understand, I just disagree...... ;)

Maybe my arms are just longer than normal, but I am able to bend at the knees when picking up my XB. It's not fun (due to the weight, mostly) but I can do it.

I'll give your technique a try. It's not going to keep me from buying the cabinet, but is IS going to give me something to complain about.

As I said in one of my other posts "I don't see how the top edge mounted handles make these cabs easier to pick up and carry. Sure, they may be easier to roll them short distances, but that doesn't do me any good when I have to carry the cab up a flight of stairs, or try to put it in my cars trunk or back seat."

I mean, when I had the NeoX212t, lifting that cab up stairs was a real pain. Bending over to wheel the cab from the car to the club was a real pain (in the lower back). I can only imagine the 410 being just as bad if not worse, due to the increased size and weight compared to the 212t.

I really can't wait to try this cab. I'm going to (shop) A/B the UB410 against the AE410 and the UL410SII at glenn's shop first chance I get (and if they're all there at the same time lol.) Can't wait to see which one fits the style of music I'm playing. I'm guessing the Epi or the Berg might win out because of conversations with Roger and Fretless' opinion on them, but you never know! My music is somewhat like Hiromi Uehara combined with Umphrey's McGee, so there's lots of chording and soloing go on that will need to be clear a very musical, so I need to test the highs and high mids to see how the cab reacts to my attack. i hope wit all ma might that I like the UB410 over the other two just so I can be different and stick with my favorite cab builders in the biz.

The handles should NOT be ignored.

#1 - I get how Roger's describing lifting the cab. Imagine this... put the cab sideways in front of your bumper/tailgate/hatchback. Put the one handle against your thigh/hip, and grab the handle farthest from you. Lean back and balance the cab on your thigh, to lift the wheels/bottom up into the air. This idea I REALLY LIKE. No lifting with the back, just using some Judo to pivot and throw the cab into the car! I wanna try lifting this cab now, just for the fun of it!

#2 - I totally understand the concept of carrying it up stairs on your own. That handle placement seems weird. I carry my 212XLT up stairs by grabbing one top corner, one bottom corner, and hugging it. Works okay, but for a heavier 4-magnet cabinet, I dunno. It still sounds intimidating. I love solutions that fix everything, but even from a design/fabrication viewpoint, is there REALLY an all-encompassing answer? I still haven't lifted a cab, by any manufacturer, that's both easy to put into the car and easy to carry up/down stairs. Two people, just peachy-keen, my brother and I get my 212 anywhere with ease.

#3 - Okay Roger, Dennis, you bastards have my curiosity peaked. Where in Detroit are you shipping some of these, and which stores are gonna be retailers for Genz? AND DON'T TELL ME GUITARDED CENTER!!! I'll punch you in the ovaries.

#4 - Dennis, if you're starting a tour, does said tour swing near Detroit? Anywhere even slightly close? I'm taking a MFin' road trip to see you play!

Damn, my loyalty to Eden is being squeezed, flexed, torqued and twisted. Heh heh. Come on guys, prove me wrong!

LOL - Tom delivers.

Esthetically I wish the Grill covered the port for a more refined look. I'm not big on odd looking stuff on stage, and this cab looks odd. I'm just concerned that I need another bass cab, which would hurt me now that I've bought 2 basses in the last week.

covering the ports with grill cloth cause unwanted, noise issues. These ports move a lot of air.

I don't have ovaries  anymore, after my hormone therapy.

Dealers in Detroit- Let me look into it.

B,

I am working on it. Nothing near Detroit at this point but depending on what happens this year I am hoping (with company backing) to start booking some clinic tours. Detroit is one of the places I want to go. So I will keep you up to date as to what/where/when and hopefully it will all start sooner than later. I have a lot of ground to make up for after some time wasted so it's time to get down to business. I miss doing clinics and hopefully this year a company will find me saleable so that we can all get excited again about what we do... I know I am:bassist:
