Why should it be avoided? It is a valid concern.
Agreed, for you and a few others. And I don't want to say your opinions are not valid or important. They truly are. But you've made it known in several threads that you don't like the handles. Roger knows this, and he's provided the reasons why they still have them. We have the first report of a brand new cab from GB here being used in the wild, so I don't thinkt it's necessary to start the conversation all over again about how you and a select few others don't like the handles. I'm not angered by it, and I don't want to anger you by communicating that I think there has been enough on this already. I just think the handle issue is a huge derail in this thread.

Sorry, but somebody else opened the door on the subject, so I decided to comment as well. So because I talked about my dislike for them in one thread a long time ago, I can't talk about it in a new thread, about a new cab, that still incorporates the feature that I don't like? It's not like I'm bashing the company. Genz Benz is near the top of my list for quality bass gear and excellent customer service. I've owned a number of GB gear over the years, but the last cab I had was the NeoX212t, and I ended up getting rid of it for various reasons, INCLUDING the top mounted handles. You make it sound like I go in every genz benz thread and complain. You say I've done this in several threads. I can only recall one other than this one. As far as I can remember, this is only the second time I've ever brought up my dislike for the the top mounted edge handles.

Sorry, from now on I will no longer comment on the placement of Genz Benz handles.

Sorry, I'm not trying to make it sound like you're bashing. I'm thinking of this more as a thread derailing issue, not a "don't say anything bad about GB" issue. You're opinion is very valid, and I can TOTALLY understand it. It's worth hearing. Besides, this is just my opinion here on the flow of this thread, so I can be wrong as well.

I'm the one that originated the criticism in this thread, and I fail to see how discussing what I see as a design flaw in the cabinet is a "huge derail" of the thread discussing said cab. While tone is obviously the main reason one would choose a cab, all of us (unless your fortunate enough to have roadies) have to deal with moving these cabinets. You can't use these cabs in the wild unless you move them. Portability is a HUGE component of cabinets of this size and weight. If it wasn't, GB wouldn't be touting the relative light weight of these cabs.

I understand that you have decided that there has been enough conversation about this topic, but I disagree. Lucky for me, Roger was willing to discuss with me and at least give me some reasoning behind the decision and a method by which I might find the handles more useful. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind on the edge lift after I try his suggestion. I get no benefit, however, from being told that there's already been "enough conversation" on this topic. Please don't be offended if I choose to ignore your future requests to ignore this issue.

I won't get offended! :D Just stating my opinion! I hope you don't get offended by that either!

I am most interested in hearing Dennis' gig report tonight! If he winds up using a 410 for most of his work, it'll be something remarkable indeed.

Not offended at all, just don't want the GB threads to turn into "fanboy" threads where dissenting opinion isn't welcome.

Having seen pictures of Dennis' current rig (BIG!), he will definitely be someone who will have an opinion on the weight and portability of this cab. ;)

for what its worth, as a lurking reader, i too was wondering how annoying those handles would be for loading into/out-of cars, onto stages, onto dollys, etc...and i appreciate the comments made on this thread as i havent read the other threads. i think its fair to comment on the ergonomics of cabs along with the sound they produce. i mean, thats a big selling point of neo cabs also, isn't it? the weight savings of a 70lb cab as opposed to a 100lb cab falls into lifting-ease. same with cab dimensions.

on the flip side, i also found hasbeen's comments on picking a cab up with one edge handle and the opposite bottom corner insightful as well. since thats how i tend to pick up certain larger cabs that dont have edge handles.

all in all i do think that standard handles on a 70lb cab this size are preferable for my own uses.

looking forward to hear this cab, as i hope to compare it to the 2x12 neox and a 2nd Acme B2 for a large cab solution to compliment my Low B2.

my two cents.

But it has side handles, not top edge handles, so the weight is better distributed for carrying it. At least IMO.

By leaps and bounds! I absolutely prefer carrying my 212XLT even though it's quite larger than my 210XLT. Simply because these handles on the 212 are almost exactly at the center of gravity. My 210 wants to tilt speakers-down all the time, so one-handing it sucks, need the other hand to keep it from twisting in your hand and wrenching your wrist.

And I still think Eden's weight disclaimer is inaccurate. There's no way this 212 is that heavy. It's such a comfy cab to carry...

And I want to publicly state, that I am offended that you guys are not properly offended about a thread-offending comment intended not to offend, but to offend the original offenses about being offended.

Love peace chicken grease. Play bass, drown out the guitars!!! I'd kiss you all but you don't want my sister's cold sores. ;)

I always felt the same way. I would rather move their 212 than move the 210XST. It just seamed lighter.

B,

I am working on it. Nothing near Detroit at this point but depending on what happens this year I am hoping (with company backing) to start booking some clinic tours. Detroit is one of the places I want to go. So I will keep you up to date as to what/where/when and hopefully it will all start sooner than later. I have a lot of ground to make up for after some time wasted so it's time to get down to business. I miss doing clinics and hopefully this year a company will find me saleable so that we can all get excited again about what we do... I know I am:bassist:

I'm sure you've heard the name dropped more than once before, heh heh, but Low Down Sound in Ferndale MI is gonna be your most ideal spot in Detroit to hit. Small, but perfect. And friendly, and stocked with all kinds of fun stuff! Let me know when you want contact info.

Maybe you can put a bug their ear that they need a clinic with me..:eyebrow:

For sure. I had both the 210xst and 212xlt myself. The 212xlt seemed much lighter than the 210xst, even though it wasn't. But I did weight mine, and Eden's specs were nearly spot on. I think I weighed mine at 74 pounds. The GB Neox 212 certainly feels much lighter than the 212xlt though. Mine was several pounds under the advertised 62. I want to say it was around 57, but it's been a while.

My "reference point" for all my cabs, both tonally and ergonomically, has been my church. I've used them all there many times. the stage is about 4 feet of the ground, in a gymnatorium type arena. The quickest way to get these cabinets up on the stage is to just lift them up and set them up there, versus walking up a small staircase. Even though the 210xst feels heavier, it was small enough to allow me to put it straight on the stage without using the stairs. Same goes for the Neox 212. I could manage the 212xlt this way, but I tended to walk it up the stairs. The placement of the handles on it allowed for easy carrying, but not easy maneuvering. The Neox 212 seems to be different. It's easier to maneuver, but not easier to carry. I can pickup the Neox 212, and pull the top of the cab flat to my chest, essentially sticking the bottom of the cab away from me, then slide it onto most any stage. Couldn't do that with the 212xlt. Also, lifting it as Roger mentioned is very easy. I've done this so many times with my Neox cab that I've even thought about putting skid rails on the back to help protect it better.

I use a cart for all my cabs, so I never carry anything. I will agree that the 212xlt "carries" better, even though it's at least 15 pounds heavier. But the Neox is just easy to move, and if you are moving it short distances, the kickback rollers make it very easy. I never carry any cab more than 50 feet though, and even then I'll probably use my cart.

I should note that I am very buff, and in good shape, with muscles abounding. The ladies love me, so perhaps that's why I have no problem throwing any of my cabinets around. Perhaps that's why you other folks are having issues. :p

(a joke, if it's not obvious already)
