UF NAD: Ampeg Micro VR Stack

I'm curious to learn, from you guys who own one, if the Micro VR's great tone is due in part to the infinite baffle 2x10, the Micro VR's head itself, or both.

I would also be curious to jack a VT Bass pedal into the Micro VR head through the effect return, bypassing the Micro VR's preamp completely, and learning if the VT Bass does it one better on that rig.

Can any of you comment based on your usage? (of both the Micro VR + VT Bass)

i have not tried to replace the preamp in an svt with the micro vr, nor would i ;) but i've done quite a bit of testing between the two amps and cabs, and i'd say that it's a combination of both. the micro vr sounds just a little more solid state than the svt, as it should, but the clean tones are not too far off the mark from each other. and the 210av requires a slight bass boost to get its low end response in line with the 810, but once you do that, it sounds like a small version of an 810. as i said earlier, blindfolded you can tell a difference between the two rigs, but they're not that far off from each other.

I guess what I was trying to determine was rather, if a VT Bass pedal and a small power amp through a 210AV cab would produce a similar, if not better tonal experience than using the Micro VR head? (granted, it wouldn't be as cool looking.) :D

similar? yes. but while the vt took me over a month to figure out how best to dial it up to match the tones of my amps, i had the micro vr figured out instantly. the micro vr's tone circuit isn't as versatile as the vt, but you don't have nearly the learning curve.
