was your post?? its just people talking about something that they thought would be interesting... why hate on people just wanted to talk about something

+1 on both counts.

Also the bongo.

Ugly? The Bongo?

Why, this is BIG news, isn't it?

*yawning*

Time for some new schtick, boys.
Hello, welcome to a thread where people are supposed to say what basses they find ugly. Herein, a person's opinion should not be dismissed as "schtick" just because many others have said the same thing. Quite the opposite, I'd say.

Your *yawn* is interesting because you come off as having a real persecution complex about this whole thing since you post a similar rejoinder every time somebody is critical of the Bongo's looks. If you're actually bored by this, just let it go, man.

First, congrats on the Fish. I've had a few and still have a fiver that I love. Ugly basses, but what tone, eh?

No persecution complex here. I just think it's rude, frankly. And bordering on ignorant, as well. But then I grew up in the South, and we're really nicer than most other people.

Heh.

Considering all the basses I find less than desirable...some downright homely....I think it's just nicer to keep my trap shut when someone is going on and on about what a wonderful, beautiful bass they've just acquired. Not that I really expect anyone to show the same sort of respect, but one can hope.

On the other hand, when the teeming masses insult the bass I play most often, I don't feel terribly bad about commenting.

Make sense?

Jack

Ewww, I think all of those posted are fairly ugly. The trailer one is just stupid, so I have to say the Banana Chew one is the ugliest.

Although there is one I've seen, looks like a giant slong, complete with Pubic hair that is just disgusting. You'd have to be VERY demented to want it, even more so to be the one who made it.

I'm not going to look for links, but trust me, it's bad, it deffinately wins any ugly comp ever.

I like basses that many people would consider freakish or ugly - the pointy, the multi-necked, the ridiculous, the downright Krappy... I dig this thread. But I gotta say, the early Carvin bass/guitar doublenecks with very narrow bodies look dreadful.

Most dead-ugly customs that you 50 year white guys in hawaiian shirts seem to build. You know, the ones with the spalted maple tops and other absoultely disguisting things.
I'm gonna have to agree here.. some of those spalted maple and buckeye burl tops are just atrocious... and that's on these basses that cost more than my car..

Wow, when I saw this thread I wanted to post this almost verbatim... yep.

So many "boutique" basses have a truly skewed design aesthetic that seems to become popular because of a high price tag. Many are just plain ugly to me.

i think that the john entwistle signature basses are not nice at all. i'll say something about the bongo: i have never seen one in real so i don't really know wether to like its looks or not. i play a sting ray, and knowing what they are like all i can say is that anything made by ernie ball is on my gas list.

maybe this should be its own thread, but when compared to guitarists, bassists seem to be much more openminded about 'non traditional' instruments; it doesn't always have to be a P, J; Ric or Ray. many other nice designs around.
