I'm not a hater but the bongo is not that attractive of a design to me, but they sound okras1983 said:

I'd second the motion about single-cut basses, I've not seen a single one that floats my boat. Also some Ritters are fairly minging.
Are we counting one off novelty basses? Gene Simmonds Axe springs immediately to mind.

Never say never. We had a little EBMM LoveFest last year in San Louis Obispo and saw some mahogany Bongos that blew everyone away. The boss was peppered with questions about when and if, and the general consensus was no.....but over the last couple of years, we've all seen MusicMan do some things that were unexpected.
I mean, look, seriously, I'm not saving my money JUST IN CASE, nor am I advocating that you should, either, but I am saying...opinions change. They might never change on this particular issue, but I have come to expect interesting things and you just never know, do you?

that being said, i played a Sting signature '51 p-bass. omg wow! love the tone man! fenders are pretty sweet, just don't like all the same shapes...

btw, on another forum I was on somebody did a google image search of "ernie ball double humbucker" and it came up with a picture of you with your Stealth Bongo!

I'm generally not keen on basses without a scratchplate for some reason (just makes it look incomplete somehow...) - ricks, stingrays and the rumblefishes look pretty cool...but the Bongo...its just too much like a squashed bubble to me, and too round...

Mostly to do with the choice of basswood as the body wood. It doesn't have a very nice grain so they chose only solid finishes. In fact, pictures from a EBMM forum member's tour of the factory (found here: http://www.elsongs.com/stingraymund/ebmm_tour2.html ) reveal that the 'naked' body doesn't have much of a grain at all.
Then of course, if Jack's semi-prediction of mahogany bongos comes true, who's to say what will happen?

Might have been a two-off, actually. But no, they're not production instruments.
But yep, the 30th SR is a production mahogany instrument.

ha, I don't know what I was thinking when I made my parents buy me my Kramer XL24 back in '81. Even when I added the Kahler in the later 80's it still was quite ugly. Needless to say I still have it...
