UL 502 vs. TF 550

I've never tried a UL502, but I've owned a couple DB750s and AG500s and T-Funks. The T-Funks just do it for me. The DBs are gone, the AGs are gone and MANY others have passed through my hands and the T-Funk is still here along with a nice A.M.P. SL-1 pre-amp and Crown rig (esstially a 1400 watts T-Funk). I'm lovin it!!!!!!;)

aww dang it!

i would have totally taken it back. :(

nice little comparison, elmon!

the "tube like low end" w/ the 502 is spot on, and yea, i like how the TFB does thicken the lower midrange. and while i'm not gonna discount your ears, cause its what you're experiencing, to my ears, the 502's that much clearer and hifi to me. but again, seems like the TFB is a waaay better fit for your needs/ears/booty. :D

but not to throw another curveball your way, have you tried an aguilar ag500? IMHO, the low mids knob, bass knob, and deep switch does spine tingling things for adding some fattening lower midrange lower end thickness to an epifani cab. dare i say, almost like a close cousin to the TFB sound. ;) one of my fav sounds, and actually kinda makes me regret selling my ag500.

The UL502 is definitely more Hi-Fi than the T-funk, but the Tfunk gets 95% of the tone that I like about the UL502, as well as 95% of the tone of the DB750. I can't wait to get one back! I briefly tried the AG500 and wasn't impressed thru a GS410. I'm beginning to think that I just don't like switching power supplies. I wouldn't mind givin the Aggie another whirl though.

wow,

that'll sell a few more units for dave... ;) but again, congrats on finding your sound! now help me enliven dave to start making that TFB800B ;)

Until the TFB800, I'll just have to settle for these two racks... :crying: :bawl:

Ok, you guys have officially given me gas pains again. I have made arrangements to A/B both my UL502 with a GaryLC's TF550B. I will A/B them at two different gigs in April. One gig I will use my two UL112 cabs, and the other I will use my UL410. I will report back in about a month.

Yup, GaryLC just sent his back to Dave. When he gets it back, I am gigging every weekend in April except for Easter weekend, and GaryLC has graciously allowed me to borrow it for a couple of gigs.

Sweet.
ElMon has me jonesing with that well written review. The more input the merrier. I just missed out on a TFB550, so I'm all like :crying: right now.

As much as I would love a 800 watt thunderfunk, I really NEED a t-funk DI/pedal pre. Something along the same size as a SABDDI with that limiter button, the timbre/enhance knobs, and can be driven by phantom power would be perfect...

...and my Crown MA 2402 can have the input set to 0.775 volts, but even set as is my t-funk seems to drive my Crown just fine. :p Over 2000 watts of punchy T-funk. :hyper:

a BIG +1! I don't have a 550B (regular 550) but I have been saying the same thing for a while. The 750 definitely has a thickness that I have yet to find in any other amp but I love the simplicity of my T-Funk! It is easily the most plug and play amp I have ver used....The idea of a good T-Funk DI with the timbre and enhance circuits is a brilliant idea!!! I'd HAVE to have at least one of them!!!!!

DAVE PLEASE SAY THIS IS DOABLE!!!! I'd pay at least $299 or $399 for one of these...anyone else???

Peace,

T

$299 seems like a good price.. the PJ bass buddy isn't that much.. but yeah... I'd love that as much or more than a TFB800..... I'd even pay a little more.

$349.. sound fair!
