Ultrasonic Cleaner for Cleaning Strings?

I went through all the trouble and it did literally nothing. Total waste of time. Boiling makes it more likely to break a string, and alcohol in a tube only works about a third of the time for me. Not worth the time. Elixirs are completely and totally worth it. They last me at least 6 months of practice and gigs, sometimes more, with no fussing. I don't ever wipe them off because my E string has gone dead immediately after doing so. Don't know why, but it did. Elixirs vs a new or refurbished set per gig is a no brainer for me. Not my favorite sounding string, but good enough.
