I thought this thread was dead, so imagine my delight to find it so very much alive. I had to go back and read it from the beginning again to catch up. I don't know which is better- the seller from ANOTHER WEBSITE joining TB for the sole purpose of "educating" us on this bass/art/thing (and insulting us at every turn) or the gloriously written responses from the TB community.
I haven't laughed so hard, out loud, at another thread on TB since I joined. This is just great.
My advice is this (take it or leave it)
Jaymeeyh- I wish you all the luck in the world with your auction. That said, I would strongly reconsider selling it in the local gallery. If you got $27K for it, I'd take the money and run. Trying to convince a bunch of very well informed musicians that they don't know what they're talking about regarding the value of art, much less bass guitars (which, by your own admission, we know more about than you or the artist), is utterly insane. Your argument boils down to nothing more than speculation- the artist "might get famous". By that leap in logic, I should sell/auction my 6 year old's painting of a still life for $5K. It's very good I assure you, and although he only spent 1/1200th of the time on it as Nathan did on the fish, he too might be somehow famous one day, so therein lies it's value. Also, he's considered a tremendous talent in his school community, so they tell me. That said, I look forward to your future posts, as this is really entertaining. Thank you!
