Seems like a wide-eyed cash grab attempt rooted in pure ignorance and executed with the utmost buffoonery to me, the most damning of all being her rationalizations posted herein.
I mean seriously, a gallery offers to "list" at ~$20k with 10% (!!!) commission, and her course of action is to post it on eBay for 10X? Go for yours, Jaymeey.
Not to mention that between eBay fees and PayPal fees, I believe they're up to taking a 10% cut these days too.
So they turned down having it in the most likely setting for it to sell...a local gallery where he's allegedly known....in favor of the an entirely unlikely place, the musical instruments category of eBay.
The mastermind behind this strategy is either the worst marketer in the world, completely out of touch with reality, lying about the artist's local reputation, or all of the above.

@jaymeeyh You came to a forum site FULL OF ARTISTS to whine about how your art is unappreciated? Any one of us could be the next jaco, but we aren't yet. you can charge what you want for the art. we may not respect it because it's a really over priced tool we use to make ours.
I thought this thread was dead, so imagine my delight to find it so very much alive. I had to go back and read it from the beginning again to catch up. I don't know which is better- the seller from ANOTHER WEBSITE joining TB for the sole purpose of "educating" us on this bass/art/thing (and insulting us at every turn) or the gloriously written responses from the TB community.
I haven't laughed so hard, out loud, at another thread on TB since I joined. This is just great.
My advice is this (take it or leave it)
Jaymeeyh- I wish you all the luck in the world with your auction. That said, I would strongly reconsider selling it in the local gallery. If you got $27K for it, I'd take the money and run. Trying to convince a bunch of very well informed musicians that they don't know what they're talking about regarding the value of art, much less bass guitars (which, by your own admission, we know more about than you or the artist), is utterly insane. Your argument boils down to nothing more than speculation- the artist "might get famous". By that leap in logic, I should sell/auction my 6 year old's painting of a still life for $5K. It's very good I assure you, and although he only spent 1/1200th of the time on it as Nathan did on the fish, he too might be somehow famous one day, so therein lies it's value. Also, he's considered a tremendous talent in his school community, so they tell me. That said, I look forward to your future posts, as this is really entertaining. Thank you!

Depends. If the Queen of Humboldt comes back, then no.. It will keep going. Otherwise, yes...
I'm starting to think that she believes every word she says and and thinks her price is completely reasonable. Like George Costanza said "it's not a lie if you believe it".
