How about now?
Get a used bass and get more value for your money. You can find a Yamaha BB 300 days for under $200 used all day long. Fantastic p bass killer.
Ibanez Talman TMB30 delivers way too much shortscale goodness for the $180 shipped Sweetwater us selling them. I had a SS Jag same time as Talman. The ibby neck was way more to my liking. The jag is a solid second choice though. OP should test both and go from there as I think those model set the bar for inexpensive shorties.
If I came across a black EB-0 for $79, I have to admit I would make another attempt to connect with its feel and sound. I love how they look, but I'm more into the P-bass feel and sound.
A black EB-0 for $79 might be a good starting point for a budget EB-3 project, too...having that bridge pickup option might go a long way toward making me like the sound.

In that case looking to the following basses second hand:
Gretsch electromatic
Ibanez Jet King I believe is short scale
Also keep your eyes peeled for older Japanese stuff. Some teiscos were short scale. And Aria and Vantage basses from the matsumoku era made some great medium scale basses if that is an option. For Aria it's the Cardinal (CSB) series and Thor-Sound (TSB) series. For Vantage the VS-600B aka The Witch bass is a really Cool one.
I should have snatched up that ebony Epi EB-0 when I took the cell pic of it, back 2-3 years ago at GC. At the time, though, I already had one of these in Heritage Cherry (pic below), so I didn't actually need that one.
But in retrospect, at that price, I should have bought it anyway... I still can't believe I didn't grab it at 80 bucks...
Those things are very pretty, to my eye. Always liked the look of SG guitars, too, but the EB-0 is even prettier because there's so little hardware and so much wood surface and finish color.
Yeah, I agree - and I foolishly traded in the Cherry EB-0 on some other gear a while back. I wish I would have kept it now.. Or even better, gotten that ebony EB-0. That one would have gone great with my ebony 2013 SG Standard that I got later.
Maybe I'll think about getting another SG bass...
Another vote for Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass.
They are 28,6" scale instruments vs. regular short scale basses that are 30".
They are extraordinary well build for the price, and with a new set up, which is not too hard (instructions can be found on the web), they play like nothing else I ever tried before.
Really sublime playabillity, and I owned a couple of 1000+$ basses.
Soundwise the bridge single coil jazz pickup is a little weak and thin sounding, but the P humbucker pickup in neck position is actually quite good, if lacking a little in clarity and definition.
The P pickup soloed or the P and J together sounds more than decent actually.
You always have the option for upgrading the pickups at a later point if the sound i not quite up your ally.
I just swapped the stock pickups of my Mikro with a pair of EMG Geezer Butler, and got much more definition and clarity, as well as some added punch out of it.
My Ibanez Mikro is my main by the way.

Well, I'm not looking for POS. I just recently replaced broken tuners on my only electric vintage bass and I don't want to take that bass on jams anymore as well as my upright. So I'm still gonna care about bronco or whatever I get, but not as much.

Harley Benton PB50 and spare cash for accessories or save just a bit more and get an Ibanez SR300 or similar Yamaha or the absolutely amazing Harley Benton BZ4000 . Yea Chinese but seriously great basses and that 18v active system is seriously loud . Or a second hand T bird or has been mentioned Squire P .
Mine is a SX Jazz that I bought here some years back for 100 bucks. It already had Fender MIM pickups, upgraded pots and input jack so all I did was repair a couple little problems myself and put a tort pickguard on it (looks great with the SX vintage white) and replace the tuners with some better ones out of my junk box. I spent a total of 20 bucks on the upgrade and a little of my time (had fun doing the work so I can't assign a value there) and have a great player that won't kill the wallet if stolen or damaged. I would miss it a lot but much less than one of my G&Ls or Fenders.
