Underappreciated Bassists in famous bands

Michael Anthony - Van Halen. This has been discussed here before. His work after leaving the band shows he is capable of a lot more than pounding roots.

Good call. Excellent backing vocals were dynamic as well.

Mike Rutherford, excellent bass player and musician. Check out his playing on 'No Reply at All'

Another good call. Great bass line throughout this tune.

I don't know if he's under appreciated, but this weekend I've been learning Rocco Prestia's lines on Squib Cakes, and man - he gets all those 16th note syncopations in just the right places. It's amazing how he can be so busy and completely supportive at the same time.

Also, Paul Jackson with the Headhunters!

I saw Tower of Power in Seattle in the late 70s and the Hammond Organ guy, Chester Thompson was kicking bass pedals IN UNSION with Rocco on most of the tunes they played....Not only was and IS Rocco a Monster but the "ORGAN" guy was just as bad ass with his feet not to mentio all the stuff he played on top of it.

Boz Burrell of Bad Co.

True Story:
Back in '79 I was at a small venue in Dallas watching Leon Redbone when the venue owner, who was a friend of mine, invited me back to the offices. He said Bad Company was in the house. So I went back to the private office area and there was Paul Rodgers
having a whisky and playing pool and the rest of the band just sitting around having drinks and relaxing. So I had a whisky with Paul and played some pool. Then, after a bit of pool, Boz asked me if I knew where they could get some weed. I made a call and we all piled into my VW Bus and headed for a friends' apartment not too far away...
a guitar player friend (who I still play music with all these years later).
Those guys consumed my friend's entire supply in one night, mixing it with tobacco from Marlboros. Around 5am, when the supply was all smoked up, we piled back into the VW bus and headed back to the venue. As I drove up to the back door their road manager was almost hysterical in the parking lot outside the office door. He though he'd lost them for good! They all got out, we shook hands, gave a couple of Bro Hugs,
and I drove home. My friend and I still laugh about that night all these years later.
Man, those were the days!
