Double Bass Unwinding Spirocore...Safe?

@james condino quick question: when I changed the Stark E, there was some minor scarring of the fingerboard under its path. Part of that was the usual schmutz you expect after a string has been on for 10 years, but even after I wiped that down/off I could still see the path of the string in the ebony. Is this normal? I’m not really worried about it because the string sounds so good, just curious.

It's normal. I remember taking a bass in to Gage's years ago and upon seeing the fingerboard wear went up to about 3rd position, Mike w said, "Ah-a workingman's bass".
