Use a stand when not playing???

I guess I don't understand the point of this thread.

You got an SX.
You like it. You're learning. Fantastic.
You put it on a stand when yer done.

mission accomplished...what's the problem? :hmm:

I guess I shoud have been a little more clear.

The info about the SX was just to give you all background information about what I have and that I am just starting.

The question about the stand was aimed at finding out if anything would be bad for the neck if I left it in there when I am not playing it. I play it everyday, but it sits in the stand the rest of the time.

Thanks you all that answered.

Nothing'll happen to it, you're cool mang! Stands are good.

There's an Olde Proverb that goes like this:

If You're NOT Playing the Bass, It goes in The CASE!!!

Both of these Fine Gibson Basses "Fell" off of the stand...Any Questions?

Yeah: How high up was the bookshelf your stand was on?!

Sorry, not to make fun of such dastardly damage! But my Schecter bass has fallen off a stand flat onto concrete (real dumb accident), and wack! it went. I sighed a deep, resigned sigh, put it back on the stand and played my gig.

I remember, years ago, throwing a Gibson EB-0 once, and ending up with many small pieces of kindling. Hey, I was young, and a little on the wreckless side ("stupid" will work here). :rollno:

I live in an apartment so my bass and acoustic go on the wall to save space. I think it's better than using a floor stand because unless the stud breaks, that guitar isn't going anywhere. Also if you leave your strap on the guitar when you're not playing it, it'll never get caught on the wall mount but sometimes it gets caught on the floor stand when you pick it up.

its an sx dude don't even worry about it. Thats what I love about mine. it wasn't expensive (most expensive part was pickups..) so you don't have to worry about scratching it or getting some dinks. I mean it's probably heavier than if it was made out of uranium so they are pretty sturdy.

Just don't go dropping it out of 10 story windows and I doubt you have anything to worry about.

In the case of Gibson guitars (although the concept applies to all instruments), the spot where the headstock and the neck meet is thin & breaks relatively easily. Check it out:

This is a cross-section of a Gibson Les Paul neck. Volutes help, but use a stand or put your instrument in its case if you can.

I've got two Warwick Rockstands (5x) in my office, and I'm content leaving everything out. I have in the past put industrial rubberbands over the fingers to keep the children from pulling the instruments out, but it's a non issue anymore. (knock on wood.)

I am thinking about picking up some wall mounts, but a lot of places want $15 PER. I can actual stands cheaper than that. What gives?

A stand is OK if you don't have kids, pets, or anything else that will knock it over. I keep a couple guitars on stands in my home office which is off limits to everybody. I have heard a fair number of horror stories though.

More complicated to put together, maybe lower sales volume? Considering the price of, well...anything else $15 per wall mount is cheap.
