Use a stand when not playing???

I have had my SX for a little over a month now...playing it everyday...loving it and learning it.

My question is, when I am not playing I have it in a stand...the kind that the body rests on ant then the neck leans back against. Is it okay to leave there or should I get a different one (something) so that the bass hangs from the headstock?

Should be fine in a normal stand.

I keep all my basses on stands (except for my upright). I've never had any problems. What is your concern?

Way too much traffic in my little studio to keep my basses on floor stand, I keep them on wall hangers. But other than floor space and the possibility of being knocked over, I don't see a problem with floor stand.

I have a double stand for gigs, 2 single stands and a rack that is supposed to hold 5 acoustic guitars in my basement.

My basses are always on stands unless I don't think certain ones will be played for a while, then they go back in their cases.

I keep all my basses in specially designed traction assemblies in a "clean room" in the basement of my house, where it's climate-controlled to 2% humidity and between 65-72 degrees (farenheit).

Oh, and I never, NEVER play them. Why take a chance on scuffing it up- or having to re-adjust the neck twice a year? Sheesh...

Sorry ! Stands are fine. Like raising kids, folks have been doing it for years. I went and bought one of those hanger-stands once... for $30. No appreciable benefit, I think. I use standard cheep-azz floor stands now.

I've got one of those curved Rockstand (I think?) stands that hold five basses, and then a single cheapie floor stand. Whatever I'm playing most currently gets to sit by itself in the floor stand.

I like to have one out and handy all the time. On a floor stand.

Still, you need to be careful. I brushed by one once and it rocked forward out of the stand and the side of the fretboard hit a table and put a dent in it..the bass...not the table. I bought a stand with a neck restraint and then got tired of using it. I am just more careful now.

The stands are made to hold guitars and basses. So there is no problem. Either a floor stand or a hanging stand will work fine. It's certainly more convenient than having your bass in a case all the time.

I personaly don't like stands that lean back and rest against the neck. I prefer the kind that support the instrument from the body if they are going to be left there for any extended period of time. If the stand was going to mar the instrument, I'd rather have it be on the back of the body than on the back of the neck. A good friend ruined the necks on two Les Paul's from the rubber reacting with the Nitro finish. Not that you'll have to worry about that much with a poly finish, but I still prefer to not have the neck bearing any of the weight of the instrument.

That said, I have a nice rack that holds five guitars/basses with felt on the contact points, and 3 single stands that support the instruments from the bottom and back of the bodies.

At show, they're ususally in a gig bag, or leaned in a corner when or if I'm not playing it.

A good friend ruined the necks on two Les Paul's from the rubber reacting with the Nitro finish.

A friend of mine had a similar experience (with a white les paul double neck guitar). For my basses, I noticed a little smudge wherever the rubber of the stand contacted the bass, which on a standard stand, is twice on the bottom of the body and once on the back of the neck. The good news was that it was easily wiped off.

Now, I just wrap the rubber in white baby flannel (100% cotton, just like polishing rags you can buy at the guitar stores for $10 each) so that the rubber doesn't actually touch the wood of the bass. Bam, problem solved.

It depends.

If i'm on a jazz gig, i'll use a stand.
if i'm on a rock gig, I lay it on the stage because of room.
if i'm in my room, it's on my bed, or on the floor.

I am paranoid and keep my bass in its case, even though I have a perfectly good stand right next to me... Im just scared that my action will raise if I leave it out.. i know doesnt make sense, but im A.D.D with some stuff haha
