using cabs with different impedance

just a quick question if anyone can help me, if I have a head that can be used with a 2 ohm load, can I put a 4 ohm cab in one speaker jack and a 8 ohm cab in the other? I know the speaker load will be over 2 ohms, but could this cause any other problem?

I presume it's not a tube amp?

Connecting two different impedance cabs to an amp cannot do no harm as long as your amp can handle the load. A 4 and an 8 ohm cab add up to 2,3333 ohm load for the amp which is fine in your case.

nope, it's ss, are there valve state amps that can handle 2 ohms? I don't think I've ever heard of one... well, thanks a lot for the info...

Be aware, the 4 ohm cab will draw twice as many watts from the amp than the 8 ohm cab. So depending on what cabs they are, and how efficient they are, the 2 cabs may not balance well in terms of SPL output.
